BugBrand MiniModular Subject description: newly born little sound & processing system mmmmmmmm |
|
|
After bunches of work checking out modular methods, I've squeezed some circuits into a lovely metal slope-fronted case to make a compact, all analogue sound & processing system. Full details and descriptions here at my website
(the pics don't really do it justice yet - not so obvious that the case is slopey and red and yummy):::::
I'll try to get the VC(LF)O designs up -- these are mods of the simple LFO circuit used all around - using LM13700 for voltage controlled resistor. (certainly not tuned to 1v/oct!)
Also, gotta record some sounds later today..!.. _________________ http://www.bugbrand.co.uk

that looks awesome. i love the integrated foot control. i'm constantly having to mod or think of ways to use my feet. cause they're just sitting there all the time and my hands are doing all the work.
nice site too. i really want to build a bug crusher... |

That thing looks awesome. Are you using the same Neutrik/Re-an knobs as Blacet? I like all of the pretty banana jack and knob colors.
Sound clips! Now!! |

Argh, I didn't get to record samples yesterday - I have to pass the box on to the new owner at lunchtime today so I've got about a 2hour window to get things recorded (..rushing rushing 'cos I'm off touring in a band from 1st thing tomorrow)
Cheers for all the comments! Yeah - EXCITEMENT.!.
Well, in true lofi DIY-ness::::
The knobs are simply the cheap SoftTouch ones from Rapid Electronics (they're about 15p each which is good) - yeah, I think that a bit of colour use really helps identify things - thats one of the many plus points of 4mm bananas (along with the fact that they're cheap, easy, quick to use and the cables are sooo easy to make - banana all the way for me!)
The front panel looks a bit less pro close up (but still just fine)..!.. Its laser print black on acetate, glued onto the panel (after drilling) and then coated liberally with spray laquer. I need to figure the gluing a bit better 'cos its slightly warpy in places - but it makes a great difference compared with most of my unlabeled devices..!.. I did the layout in the free Front Panel Designer Software, exported it by printing to PDF (free Virtual PDF Printer - useful bit of software that 'cos you can otherwise export from the program) and then editted and added text in photoshop - - hehe I printed it black 'cos my laser printer is really dodgy and tends to leave black marks all over the place so doing it all black overcomes this lame-assed problem.!. _________________ http://www.bugbrand.co.uk

And this pic of the backside of the panel shows that its actually pretty minimal::::
6 boards each with a flying power lead to the power supply/distro (AC 12v adaptor halfrectified to give bipolar --- SIMPLE!) _________________ http://www.bugbrand.co.uk

...strange things happening in Bristol.!.?.!.
Hey, I managed to rush out some demo sounds (..such a busy day yesterday and rushing this morning at 7am... I had to pass the MiniModular on to its new owner (booooo) yesterday so only a brief time to get recordings - though its staying in Bristol at least)
Demo1 - just using the oscillators and gradually getting into various feedbacking loops - cross mods, self-modulation, filter driving, noise & sweeps,,,,, wierdy tones..
Demo2 one for the noisy people - microphone processing - voice ringmod - gets very screamy towards the end
Demo3 tr505 through the box
Demo4 Guitar processing - nice trem effect and filter turns into ringmod noisys
(all the mp3s are several megs in size - sorry not much time for editting them down)
....off on tour now for the next 10days. See you all... Bestbest, bugs _________________ http://www.bugbrand.co.uk

Yes, nice work indeed. Sorry if this is a redundant question: what style of filter did you use?
BTW, the name Bugbrand is starting to get fairly ubiquitous - I saw the name bandied about on the Synth DIY list yesterday (concerning the Bug Crusher) and ran across it on a synth blog last month (can't remember - Matrix Synth or Analog Industries, one of the two).
Cheers,
Scott |

Hiya & Cheers Scott

...its the pretty standard state-variable design with a few more tweaks than I'd done before..

Whats the deal with the Synth DIY list?? I did a google search which came up with archives etc but not since like 2001 or so.. is THIS the one you're referring to? Do you get loads&loads of mails (don't want to clog my mailbox up too much..!..)??
Cheers Scott & y'all!

Yes, that's the one.

Yes.
Of course it depends on how much you consider a lot, but, just checking my archives, over a two year period I received well over 27,000 posts. Probably more than 28,000 if one considers I've deleted some.
It doesn't seem to be there anymore, but a great, searchable archive was here:
http://buchi.dyndns.org/sdiy/
There is another archive here, not sure how far back it goes:
http://www.retrosynth.com/synth-diy/index.html
The archives are an invaluable source of info.
Cheers,
Scott |
