A software sampler that you can trigger from the keyboard?

have you searched versiontracker.com?

PC?

In that case try to sniff around in this section:

I'm by far no expert in this stuff, but I've seen people using FL (Fruity Loops) trigger tracks from the QWERTY keyboards.

you could use hermann seib's vsthost ( http://www.hermannseib.com/english/vsthost.htm ) or tobybear's minihost ( http://www.tobybear.de/p_minihost.html ) in combination with a vst software sampler.

Might be a slight case of over-bombing but Ableton Live will do that perfectly. Any sample can be asigned to any key for all sorts of trigger modes.

kid beyond uses 'midi translator' to translate midi commands from a footpedal to issue predefined key commands and key combinations in ableton live.

You're probably looking for something like BackToBasics.
http://www.wizardmaster.com/bludgeonsoft/btb/index.html

It's my favorite program from BludgeonSoft
http://www.wizardmaster.com/bludgeonsoft/

...though they do make some fairly entertaining diversions. Like 0303 the PC motherboard piezo sequencer.

This software is made by the guy(s?) from Operation Re-Information
http://www.reinformation.com/

Fun stuff.
