-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The nite features Steps(74) mixing up the jazz canon with jungle grooves, experimental looping, hardbop frontline (trumpet/tenor) and plenty of 200+ bpm idmjazz beats. This is a band not to miss. 1st show since Feb 06'. The quartet will be joined by several guest artists ranging from vocalists, mcs to instrumentalists including guitar, flute, vibes, other horn players, etc. Live electro-acoustic remixes are planned covering artists such as Dj Shadow, Red Snapper, Ken Vandermark & Roni Size. This isn't just jazz, this is JungleBop.
---------------------------------------------------
The Chicago Junglebop Syndicate is a recently formed collective of chicago musicians that feel their love for jazz pushes them to help reinvent the sound. Surely since the 50's/60's heydey of bluenote and verve, hundreds of other genres and subgenres have blossomed, inspired by jazz and its canon, and improvisation. Junglebop is a fusion of the uptempo electronic sounds of drumNbass, jungle, idm, breakbeat, downtempo, and triphop fusing with freejazz, fusion, bebop, and mixing with hiphop, dub, rock, metal to form a destructively potent molotov cocktail of dexterity and precise intensity. Jazz izn't dead, you just think it iz...viva la revolucion!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Steps(74) iz: Dave Z Marsalek-traps/sampler {spizm.trioizm} Brian Niebuhr-trumpet {doppler shift} Joe Grez-tenor sax/fx {trioizm.yellowhouse} Matthew Golombisky-bass/likable noise {qmr plus.grilly biggs.lucky 7's.red shift.the other planets.tomorrow music orchestra}

music from 10-12 (2 sets) then open for anything!
-----------------------------------------------------
This nite will be a very special Chicago-based showcase of the upcoming Junglebop scene here in town. The nite also marks the beginning of the Chicago JazzFest down in grant park, so our evening's festivities will be acting as a Post-Jazzfest Party. MARK YOUR F'N CALENDERS FOR 8/31, A THURSDAY NITE!!! This is happening no where else in the states. Show your love & support to the making of a prominent scene in chitown!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Weeds has a full bar, a large patio, and just southwest of the intersection of North and Halsted, 1.5 blocks from the North/Clybourne Red Line Stop. If you're coming from Jazzfest, take the red line towards howard and getoff at north/clybourne, then walk west on north, and left on Dayton, just 1/2 block south of north ave, 1/2 block west of Halsted.

I hate to miss this one... If you are anywhere near the Windy City, swoop by and catch Spiz on the drums. Worth the trip... Very Happy
