Wiard Joystick Axis Generator & Joystick Combination Subject description: Creates 8 independant analog voltages in proportion to the movement of a connected joystick! |

In case some of you may have not seen this module, you may want to take a look at this. I am planning on purchasing this along with their joystick. It's also a FRAC-RACK form factor. The URL will tell all.
This will be a nice companion to an 8 channel VCA I have designed as part of a larger project in the sMs studio. Its also great for vectoring through different waveforms as is shown in one of the examples, or vectoring through waveforms on [Blacet/Waird] Mini-Wave units via the BANK/WAVEFORM CV inputs.
Does anyone else own these? If so, tell me about your applications.

Looks cool, Bill... Can't wait to hear some sonic examples when you finis this project. _________________ --Howard

i've got all of the wiard 1200 series except for the borg 2 filter (which i will order shortly).
don't forget, the JAG does not have just 8 outputs but 10 (the dome and edge outputs as well as all the usual outs).
you can configure a pyramid array of speakers if you like (1 in each quadrant, N, S, E and W, and one above your head - the dome output) if you have 5 vca's and 5 speakers for some truly spacial joystick panning.

Oh yes, I forgot about those! Thanks for your application hint. The idea about using the dome output to control an overhead speaker is fantastic. I suppose that's why it's called a "dome" output .. I guess I better get more amps ..
I agree, Grant is a pretty smart fella' !!
Thanks,

Yes Howard, thanks, the project is part of a larger thesis I have been writing for a while (got 100 pages done and approved thus far). Right now I am in the home stretch of a computer architecture course and right after this message have to jump out and study
This axis generator will be a perfect mate and used to control a bank of eight VCA channels that are incorporated into the project. Another part of the project are 8 modulation outputs that will be capable of serving as AD, ADSR, LFO, NON-LINEAR and LINEAR functions, NOTE VELOCITY, etc ....
Each modulation output can work in totally independent modes such as single shot, repetitive, and burst and will synchronize to EXT. MIDI clock or run asynchronously from a period of 25 seconds (or more) down to 100 milliseconds with a resolution of 10 millisecond steps. This is a challenge as I have to write some real tight "real-time" code. The processor is capable of doing 10 MIPS so it should be very capable of doing all the tasks and everything will be hand written in assembler and not compiled from an (HLL) to squeeze extra mileage out of the processor (18F8720 BTW).
I figured you would appreciate some of these details
Thanks,
Bill |

Helpfull hint for adventurous types on a budget; Any toy or electronics store will have third party (as in cheap) joypads for the Playstation2 and the XBox. These should be 10 or 15 bucks.
If you open those there will be two spring-loaded joysticks in there that are perfectly good voltage deviders or variable resistors.
Then look up what your favourite parts store charges for similar components. Then smile. _________________ Kassen |
