Oscilloscope

Will a 10mhz oscilloscope do for sdiy work? Someone in the area is offering me one for $15.

Good Price. If it works fine than get it! Once you get into Pentium5diy you must get a new one. Then you can still hook the x-in to the left, the y to the right of your stereo and get hypnoticed.

1 Mhz single channel i'll do fine:Reliability,sharpness and brightness are more important.
My Kenwood is dim and blurry but it suffices.

$15 is the price of two drinks in London..........

I picked it up today and it works perfectly. Its a dual channel B+K. Now I just need to make myself a pair of BNC probes.

Dual channal! you´re lucky. Bout the probes, i did nothing fancy, just the bnc plug+shielded guitar cable + alligator clip. That´s certainly not accurate, but it´s ok to see if you have a triangle or not and stuff like that.
If you mant to make good probes i think it goes like this: Take a 10meg resistor for a 1:10 probe. across that put a small adjustable cab (some pf i think). Connect the whole thing to something of what you know is a perfect square and adjust the cab untill u see a perfect square.

Thanks for the info... would it be too much to ask for a diagram of what I should make? I bought a BNC->RCA adaptor so I can put whatever I need to at the end of some shielded cable now.

Here is a diagram of the equivalent 10X probe circuit. The equations will help you decide on circuit component values. The compensation capacitor is variable and should have the center of it's tuning range straddled in the center of the scopes time constant (C2 x R2) and have enough tuning range of 10 to 15 pF.
