Midi Interface Subject description: Which one is for me? |
|
|
Hello friends,
I ordered a Evolution - UC33e U-Control (link at the bottom) MIDI control surface from Sam Ash and I also own a Korg Triton which I have connected to my PC with a MIDI to USB converter with 1 in and 1 out. It just hit me that I am going to need a new adapter if I want to use both at the same time (unless there are other ways?).
I'm not sure how many ins and outs I would need. I notice there are some adapters with 2 outs but only one in. I'm kind of new to using MIDI so i'm a little confused. If I wanted to just use my Triton Le and the U-Control at the same time, how many ins and outs would I need exactly?
Any advice would be greatly appreciate,
Evolution - UC33e U-Control -
Thank you
edit: grr, coulden't get the whole thing to link.. Sorry.

I would say 1 in and 1 out for each device. _________________ homepage - blog - forum - youtube

You can probably get by with what you have now.
Try taking the MIDI out of the MIDI interface into the IN of the Unitrol. Then take the MIDI out of the Unitrol into the MIDI In on the Triton. The out of the Triton then goes back to the MIDI interface. In many cases, you can chain MIDI devices like this, especially when one is a controller and one is a synth. _________________ --Howard

yeah, what mosc said, exactly
unless you are a stickler for timing, as there might be a tad of a delay from a daisy-chain _________________ Spiral Recordings |

i can recommend the mt4 2 ins/2 outs (usb). they are going for cheap nowadays (eur 40,-). i use one with my nm 1 (one pair for the editor, one for sequencing).
best regards

Read some Midi basics, a lot of magazines, sites , etcetera provide them!

This one should make things clear on the basic idea behind midi.
(As an midi interface, I use a midiman 2X2m which is 2 in, two out and I combine that with a midi thru device, 1 in copied to 4 outs, this because my so-called daisy chain of midi devices was getting to long.)
Good luck! _________________ http://husc-sound.com |

Hey, thanks for all the recommendations!
I'm going to try out the daisy chain technique, good idea. It would be so great if it works and if it doesn't I will check out the products that were previously posted. I'm still new to making electronic music so a bit of delay probably won't really bother me, as of now I just want to get a hang of using MIDI controllers in music |

Don't worry about the delay. You have to link many more than two units before you start hearing the latency. By the time you get to that point, you'll have a better idea what kind of interface to get. _________________ --Howard

the evolution uc-33e has a built in usb interface as well as standard midi ports. simply plug it into a usb port on your PC and load the drivers.
your DAW (sequencer) host must be able to support multiple simultaneous midi "INs" i for example use EnergyXT as my DAW platform and it does this well. if not, you might be able to make use of midi yoke virtual midi ports to chain the midi inputs. |

Hey! It works great!
I tried what you said Layzer and it did the trick. Works perfectly with USB and everything is fully operational
I am falling in love with this lovely board of knobs, faders and buttons. It makes things so much easier and its a lot of fun to play on. What a wonderful invention
Once again thanks a lot for the help. I'd be lost if it wasn't for this excellent forum. It makes me feel bad that I have not acquired enough knowledge with electro music to help out anyone around here. I will do what I can though. |
