Nah, well.. I don´t think so. The Arturia 2600 sounds a tad fuller, the "improvements" makes a lot of sense and it is basically a far better deal than the Timewarpie2600. Does the Arturia 2600 sound like their Moog? No, it doesn´t.
The Timewarpie is also a lot more CPU unfriendly ( without any very sensible audible "imrpovements") _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

The original wasn´t exactly "fat" in the Moog sense of the term, but it definitively wasn´t weak either.
The Arturia ARP 2600V is in a way what the ARP 2600 aspired to be but never quite was. I think the Arturia ARP 2600V is excellent. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

Good sound, good interface, sensible "modules" and patching is very intuitive. And it has that great ARP sound. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

Curious, do these soft versions of the classic mono synths also have poly mode? _________________ --Howard

Some do and some don´t. Arturia usually adds polyphony and various other improvements. This is what makes the ARP2600V truly great. The really annoying thing is of course that the ARP2600V isn´t a hardware thingie like the new Creamware emulations. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

Timewarp 2600 can be polyphonic, depending on patch complexity.
Not totally unlike the G2- in that regard.
You can also launch multiple instances.
I'm running it on a 2Gz laptop, and had no problem getting 6 notes, and still had resources left. Now if you try to run Ableton or some other sequencer at the same time, your mileage will definitely vary.
I love the 2600 filter- wish I could get close to it on the G2. |

The real 2600 has a state variable filter if I remember correctly. I think that would be 12 dB/8va. _________________ --Howard

Hmm. This thread happened originally whilst I was on holidays so I must have missed it then.
I own a mid-issue ARP 2600 and Arturia's 2600V. They do not sound very much alike. The real ARP has a lot of hiss, thumps, DC coupling and electronic artifacts that are lacking in the 2600V.
I intend to use the 2600V as part of electronic music instruction, coupled with Michmerhuizen's 2600 manual. For that purpose, it's more than good. As a softsynth, it is quite adequate too, it is polyphonic, and clean and it does not eat too much CPU (at least not on my Mac Pro).
It was very unstable when I got it, Arturia put out a fix for that, then it was unstable again when I went from Power to Intel. Again I needed an upgrade. All upgrades have been free and they don't spam much either.
What spam they do send is in French.
I'm fairly satisfied with it. It isn't like the original 2600, and I think that's probably a good thing. _________________ Garret: It's so retro.

Yup. I have a copy from when it came out. He used it as instructional material at BSEM (when it was on Dartmouth St at least). Alan Pearlman blessed the TimeWARP over the Arturia too, at least to me he did. _________________ Garret: It's so retro.

I haven't heard the Arturia 2600V, but have heard good things about it.
Not having owned a real 2600, I like the sound of the TW 2600. However, not being able to select a global midi channel nor select the midi port are few things which need to change. There hasn't been an update in a long time, and it's a one man show. I'm afraid the same thing will happen as with the G2 update. One neat thing is that you can process external signals thought the TW2600- giving them that famous "2600 filter grit". _________________ Free Tibet. Release the Panchen Lama from prison. I've used it little as a VSTi in Acoustica Mixcraft. Some nice sounds.

I have the Arturia 2600, I loved it from day one, it's slightly "dirty" like the original, obviously not as full sounding, but it's a soft synth ! I tried the TimeWARP, I found the interface really clunky, and the sound wasn't as good as the Arturia. If you can't afford an original, or the repair bills, the Arturia is the next best thing, and it's polyphonic !

I love the Arp2600V. I did some of the factory presets for it.
I owned a grey face 2600 in the 80's and this is a very nice replacement. It doesn't sound a lot like one but it can. I like the added functions like the LFO that you can make your own wave shapes on. The Filter sounds good. I like the extra LFO in the sequencer.
It works really well, sounds good. It's one of my favorite plug ins. |

2600V has become my "signature sound" on my last few Cd's, one of my favourite presets is "KS Square Pad" which is great when layered, over a few tracks, it's very lush indeed, great for creating those lovely "Enoesque" sounds reminiscent of Another Green World.

I just ordered this thing and await it's arrival any minute now at my door. After playing with it for a bit I'll let you know what I think. It took me awhile to decide though as it's compatibility with Pro Tools and the famous lack of product support by Arturia was taking it's toll. There's a PT fix patch for it now so it should hopefully work. To demo it I had to actually use the fxspansion wrapper....it sounded excellent and it will sit nicely with my other Arp emulations. I already have the Oddity and KikAXXE. _________________ Apple Mac Pro 2.66 GHz. Intel Xeon Quad core

You wont regret buying this, I could live with this on lap-top and wish for nothing else. A useful trick is to feed the outputs back into the filter, or, wherever they work best ! be careful about feedback, and edge the volume up slowly, but this way you'll get some lovely mysterious evolving sounds.
