Here's something I was fooling around with. It's called Ode To Once WRT to The Once Festivals.

My work is really just slot A. I put three factory patches in Slots B-D for the voices. Feel free to change the voices in those slots to make different trios. Peter Schickele did a program on trios once. He said it was the most common form. Almost everything I write is a trio. I discovered that when I bought my first 8 track recorder and realized I didn't need all those tracks.

Solt A has three note generators that use seveal LFO-A modules to generate the notes, velocity and the varations. By changing the waveforms of the LFOs you can different sounding music. Use square waves for the note times and you'll get much more beat oriented sounds.

This performance has a defect. Sometimes the variations will change when there is a note playing and this generates a click or pop. I like this actually. It gives the feeling of listenting to a vintage recording - but it doesn't have all of the crappy sound. Maybe that's a rationalization. I didn't want to edit any of the voice patches because that would miss the point of using factory presets.

At any rate, this reflects the mood I'm in at the moment.

Enjoy...

And I do! I like this...

...or could this be caused by triggering a new note at the same time that the patch variation is being changed? I added a delay to the gate input of the Note Send modules to allow time for the patch variation changes to "settle" before a new note on is sent - this seems to reduce some (or most?) of the clicks and pops...

Thanks...

Here's another version. This time I'm using some of my own patches.

The slot A part is much improved now.

I've added an 8 bit back/forth sequencer that is switch selectable with a oscillator. There is a random trigger module to thin the clocks if desired. You can now use the master clock for any or all of the note engines, so you can sync the slots - boring but good to do in beat oriented stuff.

Most importantly, the controls are assigned to the G2 knobs so you can adjust the parameters of slot A in real time, suitable for live performance. I like interactive noodles.

The variation changes can be made to be automatic or manual for any or all slots too.

I use 8 step sequencers because they are more easily controlled on the G2's 8 knobs. There are controls for manual up/down and automatic control.

This noodle makes some really amazing sounds if you give it a long time. The repeat cycle most probably is very long.

This is pretty music on the noisy side of life.

Ode to Thrice

An improvement over Ode to Once.
This is an interactive noodle where the note generator peramaters are brought out to the G2s knobs for real time control.

This is great, good range of sounds. I'm not seeing any of the knobs assigned for some reason.

Your dry, po-faced thread needed livening up! Very Happy

You can hardly whinge about the rover link when you use affiliate links yourselves. Rolling Eyes

Oh no! I've dared to be controversial. Shocked Shocked
No doubt big brother will drag me off to room 101.. (Checks private messages... yup, there it is: "This is how it will be"... blah blah, from elektro80.. anyone else want to have a go? BlueHell, maybe?)

Go on then, ban me for daring to post messages with pictures in them, having a large sig, not wearing a beard, OR sandals.

I'd rather have that than become one of your conformist drones.

Oh, no, no, no- we don't 'ban' people round here, we may ask them to 'go away' (from time to time, but that is is under exceptional circumstances), but most of the time we just expect them (you, and your like) to behave yourselves. Wink

Now go buy yourself a Nord Modular G2, and join in the 'noodle' discussions. There's a good chap Very Happy

Mosc or Jan (or whoever has a G2), would you mind awfully loading up this thread's G2 patch as an mp3 so myself and Mr Sourcecode can enjoy this delightful noodle? Cheers Smile

Ode to once twice ... a 15 min (21 MB) collage of the patches posted above. I took some liberties in sound treatment.
