MIDI-signal going through USB-hub -- OK? |
|
|
In your opinion, does the MIDI-signal from the A6 lose quality if I send it through a MIDI-USB interface that is connected to a USB-hub, instead of directly to the USB-connection of the computer? |

i doubt it would make any difference.
however i don't know much about usb-hubs.
why not just try it .
by the way i presume the hub is powered sufficiently.

USB ws design from the ground up to have hubs, and there's a 90% chance that your PC has 2 roots with hubs themselves, to give you the multiple ports that you do have.
That said, I have seen problems with usb hubs, but this was several years ago, and I haven't seen or heard of people with hub problems anymore--in fact my experience is that a good powered hub improves things. go figure. Just make sure you get something recent, supports usb2.0, and comes with it's own power supply. These are the devices that have all the accumulated bug fixes and whatnot over the years, and are very stable to use, and are well designed, vs. some $4 cheap thing you buy to save an extra buck.
USB also supports isochronous operation, meaning your device has guaranteed bandwidth *always*, SO as long as all the devices added up don't require more bandwith than usb has, your perfectly OK. And you don't increase the delay between the device and your PC either by having a hub, hubs don't have internal buffers or anything that would significantly add milliseconds to your latency. |

I use a USB hub (powered like JK says) in my studio and I've never had any problems with it. My G2 is connected thru the hub. Mine has a very useful feature, a green light above each port. When the software driver connects the device on that port, the lite is turned on. It's great for debugging hookups and drivers. _________________ --Howard

That would be very useful!! Alas, mine only has a cool blue backlight (clear plastic w/logo) when it's powered up. |
