Hi People
You know it is great when it all comes together.
1 Studio ready for work
2 Idea and inspiration
3 one week of free time and bad weather
4 the courage to rise early each morning and use that free time
Last week it all worked out. The Idea i had was this:
Since i joined in nov 2005 with almost no electronic knowledge and a bag full of resistors i have meat lots of great new friends got the chance to learn all thats needed to build a spaceshuttle (or simulate the sound of one)
Since this place is full of cool samples i knew for a while that i had to first finish the synth (haha) and make a song dedicated to electro-music.com.
So here it is. You hear a lot of sounds that can be found on this website. The rest is my modular, some old effects, my old mitec 16 channel desk, my basses and some digital convenance. I still don´t have a midi-cv, so the modular does the drums and the sequences.
I wandered around the forums and started collecting sounds.

Mosc provided some of the main vocals. I cannot understand the lyrics but i´m sure he´s talking truth and wisdom. Dovdimus Prime invented that language. I know it has to do with a device called Kugelschreiber. Kugelschreiber? Pnotsk!

Blue Hell is saying the same word, though it sounds different.

Uncle Krunkus gave birth to a new kind of vco. It sounds so cool that it now starts the song.

Scott Sites is the man that made the pad sounds (and some other). It all has to do with vactrols. Also there is some mutation going on.

dnny is the robot voice and seems to like the sound of breaking glass as much as i do.

Gijs Gieskes has got those fantastic tape sequencers. I didn´t even know something like that existed. visit http://www.gieskes.nl/

Bugbrand had the sample and hold clocked faster than our eyes can see. This device is commonly known as the bugcrusher and has been cloned many times in digital systems. You can hear the effect on the first drumbeat, the whistling and the guitar.

Thats it. I hope i didn´t forget anyone or some sample. If i have please complain so i can update. I wanted to use much much much more, there are so many users and so much music here. Guess some day there´ll be a part 2.
So thank you for posting that sound, thank you for the inspiration. Everyone.

Have fun with this little story about electro-music.com:

Hear, hear!

Electro, DIY, Worldwide. All in one very cool, kick-ass composition.

It proves to me there are no borders in Electronic Music and on electro-music. It doesn't get any better or more powerful than that.

I love it!

Cheers,
Scott

This is great. Not just because it collects the many sounds on this site, but because it's a good composition and a fun track to listen to. Cool!

This reminds me, I need to upload some more samples of my recent sessions playing with my Blacet modular.

this is great! good work!

there is one correction i have to make : the tape-sequencer sounds are from Gijs Gieskes.

there should be more this kind of projects - this is great for me because i can't compose but i can produce lots of weird souding samples Smile

thanks Jens for doing this this made me happy - its been a bad day here - i just found out that my light console (my main tool) is broken. i need to figure out how to fix it.

Indeed. Who needs a cd-rom anyway! hehe

Maybe we should hold a competition? Put the winner on the front page- alongside the composition that zipzap posted?

Two catagories;

1. The best new track (in 5 genre catagories)

and

2. The oddest or coolest noise (again in 5 catagories)

what do you think folks?

oops, there it has happened... should have read the whole posting maybe.
Just edited my first posting and mailed him to come over and check it out. No asking for permission anymore in this case Embarassed

Your replies are wonderful! This is actually the first song i ever finished. For one thing because i´m now mixing analog - that total recall computer convenience turned every song i ever started into a never ending story. But the main reason was that felt the need to work, finish and post this, since there are so many pople involved.
Yeah, worldwide. I got inspired a lot by these samples, but than it soon becomes a one man show. We should find a way of global composing, all interlinked. Don´t know how it should be managed, but there should be no rules anyway. Groups of ten people or so can easily say stuff like one starts with a little soundloop, very open and almost empty (funk is what you don´t play - james brown), the next one comes in and adds a bassdrum wherever he likes and so on. Soon you have a complex monster and everyone can start arranging and kicking stuff out, in the end there might be as many songs as stars in the universe.

I think that is great idea - I'm in for those cool noises - ...i better start recording and stop typing--- what would the categories be? (digital, analog, natural, freestyle?...)

What if we had a "sample tank" - a thread where everybody posts their new sounds. Then the best new sound competition could be a poll based directly on what is in the sample tank, and the best new track could have some condition like "must contain two sounds from the sample tank", and all entries in that competition get posted to another dedicated thread.

Contests aren't really consistent with our philosophy. There are plenty of sites that have "rate this" buttons. We aren't about this. electro-music is made for the joy of it - a labor of love - and we respect and appreciate everyone.

We have the Online Music forum for posting music.

Having a featured song appear on the front page is a good idea though. I will work on a way to accomplish that.

Thanks for the suggestions and enthusiasm.

Mosc is got a point. You can't rate music Very Happy

As a Dutchman once said to me, "One man's music is another man's cacophony" Cool

This is highly cool. I like this. That bit at 4 minutes is so funky!

I'm flattered my random words have inspired two compositions to date. Perhaps the electro-music.community should commemorate my contribution with a statue?! Very Happy

Me too. That's me exactly. I'm lucky because I just started collaborating with a friend who wants weird noises (but has a hard time making them) but is great a composing. A perfect match!

Yeah, okay, no competition.
Same idea, just remove the word competition.
Thread of new sounds.
Thread of international audio concoctions.

If anything, it'd be cool to have an electro-music tee shirt with a pic of Howard and the following text:

Kugelschreiber? Pnotsk!

Very Happy

Been listening to that tune all weekend - I'm ready for a ZipZap album.

Cheers,
Scott
