Dont know if impressed with this or not,

http://www.research.att.com/projects/tts/demo.html

I remember almost 20 years ago, the BBC microcomputer was capable of basic speech synthesis, of course it had a grittier sound but even after all this time it doesnt seem like they've made that much progress.

Prehaps the full software offers more options, a natural voice doesnt keep to a steady pitch, so id imagine this would be controlable, and with signal processing more natural results could be acheived prehaps....

interesting stuff though....anyone know of anything better?

The voice "Crystal US English" does say "pimpstick" pretty convincingly.
Hmm, isnĀ“t there a "Dolomite" voice here too?

Interesting. I found it not too bad, but you're right about the pitch variation. French seems to sound a bit better (to my ears anyway). The multi-language options can be useful for making samples and such. Smile

Oddly (or not!), I didn't hear a difference in speech when I used a period, an exclamation mark, and a question mark in the same sentance. Maybe this could of been used to vary the pitch a bit?

Thanks for the link!
