Here's a simple spreadsheet for anyone who's wondered what would be the effect of putting a parallel resistor across a variable resistor. I always assumed it would produce a non linear relationship, but it wasn't until I did this spreadsheet that I realised that the amount of non-linearity was dependant on the ratio of the two values.
It could be handy for when you want to use another value of pot.
I might improve it later to include graphs of other circuits, log pots etc.
