Hi all,

a couple more questions have arisen as I try to order parts....

Rapidelectronics doesn't have 7805 voltage regulators, can I use this LE50CZ?

In that case I only need a 2.2uF stabilising cap, is that C7 in the parts list / c20 on Uncle K's stripboard layout?

Rapid doesn't have BC550 either, any suggestions for replacements?

Thanks for all the help (as always)

Joel

Oh yes they do: - here

Yeah, that would be C20

I'd check again for the BC550, they're almost as common as the 7805.

yes people back again Laughing i left the battery in my ds-7 lastnight and went to show it off to a friend tonight but there was no sound , i replaced the battery and it was fine so it seems it is using battery power even if not producing sounds, on my synare it has a plug in power meaning when you plug a 1/4"jack into the input it kicks the battery power through the connection , is this possible on the ds-7 ? didnt think it should use power if not being used? the battery was a good one by the way , just dont want to be taking the battery in and out everytime i want to have a play about , i always take batterys out still if im not going to use it for a week or 2 ,

thanks for any help Cool

Hi vibesmaster, can't you just wire a switch in series with the battery? It could either be a toggle switch, or a switch built in to one of the jacks (i.e. the output jack, so that when you plug something into the output it fires up the circuit) - you'd need to find a switched socket that was normally open Question

Good luck! Remember to post some pics and samples with a fresh battery Wink

Use a stereo jack and wire the - battery to the ring of the jack. So when you plug a jack into it, it will make the connection and turn on. Hope that makes sense

Nearly got my DS clones finished - 2 DS8s and 2 DS7s on a rackmount panel; got 3 of the boards wired up so far and its sounding good sequenced from my Regelwerk. I've done the CV in mods as well so I can have all 4 channels playing tunes rather than just pure synth percussion if the mood takes me.

Pretty messy from both angles I'll admit, but amazingly it works.

Very Nice, I'm still alittle ways off on the DS7's, but could you point me in the direction of the CV in mods? DS8? thats the DS7 with noise right? I figure by the time I get to these there will be more mods Laughing Dnny knows how long I had the DS7's on my list. About as long as his Soundlab Shocked hehe

Very nice,
I thought i have posted the CV mod but no? well thanks for posting it.

Tim (zebra) . I´m taking steps back whit my SL - one day week ago, i savaged few pots from my "nearly done"-SL for other projects - that's bad i know.
there should be betting on dnny vs. v-un-v, who gets it done first?
what do you think?

Well, it's not a nice 1v/Oct or anything so don't get too excited; I sequence it from my Regelwerk and do it entirely by ear rather than trying to match the notes it says it's playing but you can definitely get melodies out of it. I suspect trying to play it directly from a keyboard would give you some interesting results though Wink

he he. Its all good theres just so much sweet stuff to make. I'm "almost" finished my sequencer. I got the boards from Ray last November. I can't tell you how excited I am about that. Just need to find someone to work out my PSU woes. Then finish some module panels I've had for another year. THEN DS7's AHHHHHHHHHHHH. Muhhahahahahahahha

i just had the funniest DS7 experience Very Happy

i had only ever visited this thread a couple of times but hadn't been that interested - that is until i had to perform with one last night!!

story: an ex-member of an old new-wave band called "Rational Youth" from Canada had a performance in berlin last night. he 'recruited' various people to help him perform for his set and i helped out with a couple of songs by playing a Merlin and a DS7! (which i had never seen before in real-life)

i basically had to fool around with the knobs while triggering the DS7 by whacking it, thus triggering the internal piezo. it sounds great and is really fun to play with.

the casing is so solid and the knobs still feel good after all these years. i'm impressed.

Did you just build it, or has it worked before?

If any of the pins on the regulator are broken, it won't have a snowball's chance in hell of working! Laughing

I reckon the connection between U1A pin1 and the R29/30 pair is where you should cut it. (first, of course, make sure the patient is stable and that the heart/lung machine is on the backup generator! Twisted Evil )

Should I cut the vein between R21 and pin 3 of U3 too?
