Water as MIDI Controller Subject description: Using water surface as an instrument |
|
|
I'm sure you've probably already seen the video on YouTube with using water surface as a MIDI controller (as it was on the main page as a featured vid) but if you havn't, check it out --->
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJ9LQHazTRg
Under the vid's summary he says that he is using the water to control the 5 "lasers". Does anyone know what kind of lasers these are which he is using as a MIDI controller? I would really love to make a set-up like one of these, and I'm sure you probably would too... |

By the same author, there's another video showing the use of 1 laser. It looks like a standard red laser pointer, with an optical sensor detecting the laser as it scatters through the water. This other video is much easier to figure out. |

That would make sense.. but where can you find a optical sensor for controlling MIDI? I suppose you could use an optical theremin for the same type of sounds... _________________ "We don't like their sound, and guitar music is on the way out." --Decca Recording Company, on rejecting the Beatles in 1962 |

if I understand correctly it does not have anything to do with water. any liquid surface would work: red wine or beer would make the experience more "multidimensional" _________________ homepage - blog - forum - youtube

It has to be clear or semi clear liquid, he using old FBI laser/voice monitor scheme. Originally ment to translate voice vibrations off a room window to a speaker, to hear what is spoken inside. Sneaky feds! |
