Hey all, I was wondering what people find to be the best way the clean the bus wire of a CV keyboard. My electronics teacher, who knows something about synths, said to try an eraser first and if that didn't work to try a little isopropyl alcohol. Any tips?

I'd have used isopropyl alcohol without further thinking (as I never got any damage from using that), but I never heard of the eraser trick before; going to try that next time when I need to clean contacts.

Try to stay away from contact spray though, gear gets addicted to that, immediately.

Thanks, Mr. Green .

Though for the 'synth' in question (an Omni-2) the problems may lie elsewhere. thinking If I can get the keyboard in working shape I may attempt a rehousing.

As far as erasers go, I'd have thought a Polifix-type abrasive eraser may be a good choice - wha'd'ya reckon?

Polifix Block

Difficulty is often going to be getting at the contacts and applying enough pressure to clean them without bending them out of shape..

Erasers work great to clean contacts, but I would avoid them at all costs because they wear off the plating that may be on the contacts.

I use alcohol with a cotton swab.

As for contact cleaners, there are several types. In the US, ones called color TV tuner cleaner (color is the key word here) leave the least amount of residue. I've used this type and have had pretty good results. You can sometimes have good results spraying this stuff on cotton swabs and then cleaning the contacts with that.
