i want to build a step sequencer in max but i have no idea to start the patch.
any tutorial out there?

There's not really a stepsequencer tutorial, but it's not that hard and there are a lot of ways to do it, I included a small example patch where I use [counter], [matrixcontrol] and [table] to achieve a stepsequencer like channel strip.

You could start with rewriting the patch and/or thinking of your own way to do it.
