Matrix Mixing |
 |
|
So after a lot of searching I wanted a matrix mixer. I want to be able to feed a signal into an effects processor, that processor back into itself, then into a reverb unit then to an output. This is a huge disaster with cables and I thought that the behringer mx662 would help, after a long search for the mx662 I was able to find two of them on ebay for one low price. So I picked both of them up and they dont seem to do what I expected.
a main input signal would go to out put 1 out put 1 would go into processor 1 processor 1 would go into input 1 on the behringer
output 2 would be a mix of both the main input signal and output 1 this would go into processor 2 and back into input 2 where the signal would be passed to a main output.
No one really makes a matrix mixer, so I was sure that I found a reasonable replacement, but the MX662 just doesnt seem to do it.
is there a way to make two mx662s do what I want? Or do I just need to keep searching for a used matrix mixer? |

Remember, you don't have to use the effects return input for your effects.
To accomplish what you want to do, return your effect(s) back to an unused input strip. Since the strip has sends on it, you can then send it back to your effect. _________________ -- Kevin

I could use a matrix mixer too, that is ... at least as many buses as incoming channels, or maybe even a couple buses more ... been thinking about a DIY thing as I couldn't find anything suitable either. I'd want a mono version I think ... at least 8 ins, and 10 or 12 outs then ... but no real plan as of yet. _________________ Jan |

I did find this Mackie matrix mixer, not easy to find but a fast search on craigslist did generate one.

Is the matrix concept really a viable description of the problem at hand?
Wouldn´t this basically still be about signal routing? I imagine this is what I do all the time with my synths, like with my dotcom monster and whatnot. My solution is simply some line level mixers, some patch bays and a lot of cables.
I should mention that I often use modules like the dotcom Q118, Q125, Q113 and Q111 for level control, level adaption and mixing. And using envelopes for effects mixing is of course quite helpful too.
BTW.. SM PRO has some cute rack line mixers/DI thingies that are quite useful sometimes. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

I have several boss units that have audio control inputs. that is, I can control the delay time or amount of pitch shifting with an audio track. They are a pain to control, so I wanted to be able to create multiple mixes to process and control the units with the same sound(s)
I know that it seems like a long way around to do it. |

Ahh.. I see. It could be that one of the late 80s/early 90s Tascam consoles with midi control might be of interest? They are amazingly useful, sounds kinda decent, rather huge and can be had for little money these days. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"
