Electronic musician & radio DJ Chuck van Zyl has long been a part of the spacemusic community in & around Philadelphia. Host of the long running radio program on WXPN, Star's End, and organizer/proprietor of the nearly two-decades-old Gatherings series of concerts, van Zyl's a veritable fixture across the many interfaces linking classic Berlin School, ambient, krautrock-influenced space, and longform atmospheric music. As a performer either solo or collaborating with others (long since noted on his early 90s Synkronos label's cassette releases, and over a number of CDs & CDRs), van Zyl has plied his trade most effectively via his arsenal of trusty analog synths and vintage keys, switching modes between Tangerine Dream/Klaus Schulze affectations and other, more obscure cosmic couriers with ease. His new release, Memoryspace, will be available at this performance, and will no doubt inform the chugging space-surge of his OTP debut.

van Zyl's OTP debut will also feature Mike Hunter, aka drone/ambient guitar improvisor Ombient. Hunter started his musical career playing his father's electric bass through an old analog tape delay, producing strange and disturbing space/mood music. Ombient’s music, being of a live and improvisational nature, is representative of the feeling of the moment in which it is performed, using guitar, processed and layered with digital looping equipment, to produce near-symphonic levels of density.

Only one more week until Chuck's OTP debut - looking forward to seeing some of you forum members here for what will be the final event of 2010.

Announcements for OTP's 2011 schedule will be made in December as well.

More soon!
