I need test voltages for the sound lab ultimate, everything seems to functioning except for all three oscillators.

All three oscillators?
I think all are the same, Yes? I'd look for IC's inserted backwards or a common mistake in components in all three oscillators... Post a pic of the oscillator section of the board...

x38
x23
x8
and x6 all have wires that lead to no where. I noticed upon tapping them to ground they pass sound through the line out.

I have rapidly demo'd for you how the voltage controlled lowpass filter section, VCA, and both LFO's seem to function when the resonance is cranked. I like that it shows that they work due to some HF oscillation coming from the resonance knob when its all the way up. I just dont really know how this thing works yet since I have never even touched one besides my own.

Those NEED to be connected.... R21, R79, R39 and the jacks just below them...

hahaha well.. I soldered them in and now the first two oscillators are working but not the 3rd.. HM.. its doing stuff but i have no clue if what it is doing is right. I should have started by building a simple oscillator and then and LFO so I knew what each piece did. Im a drummer/technologist/and studio technition. I barely know what all this sh*t does! it sure sounds cool... Cool

what are some cool patches and settings that I can try on this thing?

Well - Good ! You are making some headway Smile
I think you should check all of your solder joints on the third osc. - Then the orientation of the IC's - get that working...
As far as patches - well, It's a bit of a learning curve if you've never done much synth work before...just play with it for a bit - it'll all start to come together for you, I'll bet.

I'm fond of White Noise into the Sample and Hold - and then the Sample and Hold into an Osc. - But then again - It does not take much to entertain me, Smile

BTW - Congrats on the build! A few minor issues after a build this large are not uncommon. You did good.

hey thanks man! it was super ambitious of me to build this thing. it was out of my league and then after a bunch of mic preamplifier builds and compressor kits this started to look easier. so i stabbed at it today and it worked! I just looked at your link in your signature and your stuff is super cool!!! Laughing you are inspirational to me.

Im not sure if i am patching into the sample and hold correctly but it did not seem to be doing anything. I could imagine what that does. "sample..and..hold.." ill post back when i get more time. until then its back to the warehouse Sad

i really appreciate your interest and help.

Ambitious indeed, it looks great and will be tons of fun to learn about synthesis with, nice work!

It sounds like you may have the VCOs sorted out with assistance from the always helpful RF.

One thing, it looks like the transistors you have used for the expo pair (the socketed transistors is the close up photo) have their flat faces oriented towards each other, if my eyes are not deceiving me. That would be incorrect, you want both flat sides pointing in the same direction, depending on the transistors you used they could go either way, the datasheet will tell you the pinout.

If the VCOs are working perfectly at this point then disregard this, but if they are not working correctly yet then that may be a good place to check.

Again, looking good, let us know how it's going,

regards,

jordan

If I remember tonight I will post on here while I move some knobs to see if you guys think it's working right.

another simple patch is to take an out from the LFO and patch it to the CV input of any of the oscillators then a waveform from the oscillator should be patched to the mixer.. you should definitely here the VCO frequency being modulated by the pulse(s) of the LFO. This can be a way to test that 3rd oscillator to see if it works like the others..

You need to send something into the input and output of the Sample and Hold to get it to work. Try running a patch out of the ramp out of an oscillator, then the sample and hold output into either the linear or log CV input of the oscillator.
