I've recently (finally) managed to get an iPad 2. Grabbed a 32MB version from the Apple Canada refurb site. I also picked up a used Alesis IO Dock (I'm out of work and selling other stuff to pay for the new things), and integrated the lot into my MIDI setup, through the MIDI patchbay.

My son and I (he's guitar player) have been playing with Animoog and other apps, and I picked up a guitar synth called "SHREDDER". We started by using the guitar to trigger the sounds in SHREDDER, it tracks quite well but is sensitive to level. Easy enough to use but the player needs to keep the level as constant as possible. It's also monophonic only, which doesn't surprise me too much.

Then I noticed that it would output MIDI from the input signal, so we changed the routing in the patchbay around a bit, and we could then play my Shruthis (small synths) from the guitar. Very cool. I suppose I could hook the Rhodes to it instead of guitar and play lead lines on the synth from the Rhodes. I'd like to try some other instrument, sax or trumpet or something. It could be a substitute Lyricon.

Randy
