As far as I know the editor parameters should give the exact visual feedback on the Andromeda as if you were editing from the synth itself. I tested that but sure I could missed one or two parameters of coarse.

PureData has the advantage of being free. Max has the advantage of doing a lot more than just midi and audio, and is supported. Also Max has a slick interface.
