Here's my spin on the granular thing. This patch lets you capture 2.7 seconds of audio material. After capturing, you can:

-Continuously manipulate the speed of the playback -from full forwards to freeze to full backwards -without affecting pitch.

-Conversely, change the pitch of the sample up or downward -without affecting speed.

-Freely scrub around in the sample -again, without affecting pitch.

The playback speed is set to zero default. So, after capturing, you won't hear anything right away. I have assigned the (bipolar) pitch stick to the (bipolar) playback speed and the modwheel to the scrubbing position. This way, you can dynamically shuttle back and forth in the sample with the pitch stick and scrub around at leisure with the wheel. Fun.

All controls are also represented on the panel (Page A1). There's also a tuning knob there to tune the sample (regardless of speed).

The last three parameters (grains rate, pitch jitter, readout position jitter) pertain to the granular synth engine of the patch. "Grains rate" controls the speed (and size) of the grains. The jitter parameters, used conservatively, are helpful to "mask" the artefacts caused by the (constant) granulising frequency (especially at high rates). (Without those, the patch sounds identical to old timestretch algorithms on vintage samplers, which is also nice). Cranking up the jitter parameters just warbles the stuff around -fun too.

A cool patch for live jamming. Fits on one DSP. (I squeezed it into the FX section). Enjoy.

best,
tim

Absolutely awesome patch in both usefulness and sheer G2 wizardry.

here's a fun example of what this can do. i think all i did was capture a part of the loop (not a very good job at that) and started twisting knobs. i could do this for hours...

(took me a while to find which patch i'd used, i didn't save it to the synth at the time.)
