Hello everyone. Very Happy
I'm new in this forum...I'm fascinated by this beautiful synth and by this forum!

I'm a guitarist and I would build and play this great electronic machine.I've read about soundlab mini-synth guide and now I have bought nearly all the parts....but I need your help! Very Happy

first of all...
power supply is +/- 9V...i would use the two VCOs....but I've read in the VCOs schematic that IC LF444 & LF442 power is +/-12V....why?...but the power supply is +/-9V!?!?! Confused

I hope I can rely upon your help Wink

bye Smile

Hi balance,
welcome to this forum Very Happy

don't worry about the voltage...
you can run your sound lab from +/-9V to +/-15V with no risk of damaging the unit, and probably with no differences in terms of sound...

if you have further questions, post them here...
I'm sure a lot of people will be happy to help you out... Smile

bye...

Hi Ladislao

thank u......I've seen you beautiful & cool SoundLab...great work!

I've re-adapted schematics to build mini-synth on perfboard (not stripboard)....so could you say me if they are right?....i will post them soon...
p.s.. sorry but I'm not an expert electronic-man Wink but I've just build some simple theremin on perfboard.

bye.

hi balance,

unfortunately my skills in electronics are pretty limited... I doubt I can really be helpful in checking out schematics, modifications, etc...

the only suggestion I can give you is to try to follow as much as possible on your perforboard the parts layout and traces direction of the PCB version...

otherwise, another obvious suggestion would be that you buy an original PCB from Ray..
I did it, and I'm really glad I did it... it's professionally built and really comfortable to use...
it's up to you...

good luck... Surprised)

ladislao

P.S.: btw, I didn't finish my soundlab yet... the pictures you have seen show my WP-20 and my WSG... ;o)

WP-20

Quote:
Many moons ago Ray Wilson and Ron Romeo created a small company that sold PC boards and kits. We called it "Waveform Processing" The WP-20 Mini-Synth was our premier product. As I look back at it now I see many things I would do differently today but I wanted to leave it as it was 25 years ago. It's a great project and it makes some very cool sounds. I hope you have fun if you decide to build it. This would make a great junior-high or high-school electronics project.

there are a lot of differences in features and sound quality...
the soundlab is definitely much and much better than the WP-20...

I built this one first just because I wanted to start building synthesizers from an easier project...
now that I feel more confident with electronics, I started working on my soundlab...

my suggestion is to build both... these are great machines... great analog sources of sounds... you can even make them working together... layers and layers of great electronic sounds...

I still gotta make one. I have a question. I wonder what other kits Ray had? And if he would post some (if he still has them) on his site. I'm sure he and his friend had some other cool circuits.

I've put on perfboard only components (Ic,res&cap) and I've noted near where some components are connected to.
