external power source

hey, i'm planning on building myself a soundlab, but i would like to be able to include a different power source so i don't have to use batteries.
does anybody have a schematic for this? i read in another topic that someone had used to power supplies, one for +9V and another for -9V.

Paia has +-12 regulated power supply kits.

I want to get one mainly for the phono preamp kit they have. But was wondering whether I could also run the synthlab with the same PS.

I know I said this before and you gots to do what you gots ta do, but. One of the coolest things about the SoundLab is that it runs on batteries. Now I don't use mine everyday, but I've had the same duracels in mine for a longgggg time and It's still going strong. Took it camping this weekend and ran my friends shortwave through it for about and hour or two. Still going strong. Now can you take a Synth camping with a P.S. Wink

I mean you could do both. I would like that option. Well just food for thought. The batts have never been an issue for me.

Yes it run on battery but that is not for me. I like to keep my gear up and
running.Coolest thing about SL is sound and it need +-9 v power not 12 v.
SL seams to lose some harmonics or something when voltage rises, maybe
oscillators become too acurate(at least in my case). I also looking schema for +- 9 v power ???

I ordered a triple output 12V wall adapter for my SL from Electronic goldmine:

Cheap enough, for sure. It's got +/-12V, with way more than enough current to run the SL, plus 5V, which would be perfect for driving a PT2399 delay chip or two (now that would be cool built into a SL).

You could ignore the +5V, subregulate the 12V lines to 9V, and put in a switch to select between external and battery if you so wanted. A standard DIN plug works fine.

No messy power supply to work with. Cheap enough to buy more than one easily, too.

Edit: No real need to subregulate it - should work fine at +/-12V. Subregulation would ensure more consistent operation between battery and external power, perhaps.

I tend to avoid charge-pumps, myself. The idea of putting high freq stuff on the power rails just gives me the willies. Even if there are methods for eliminating squeal (as shown by RG), I still don't even want to go there on an analog synth. But, that's just me Very Happy

i'm still going to leave the 2 9V batteries conectores so that if i want to, i could run it on batteries. the thing is that i used some replacement ic's, the TLxxx because they costed like $5 less.. Razz

and i don't really know how much will the battery run with this ones so i'll just plug it in and no problem
