Cycling '74 to Release Soundflower Audio Connection Tool for OS X

Free extension to enable routing between OS X audio applications

Cycling '74 announced Soundflower, a free system extension for Mac OS 10.2 and 10.3 that allows users to route audio between OS X Core Audio applications, at this year's Winter NAMM show.

Cycling '74 developed Soundflower as a way to allow applications developed with its Max/MSP audio environment to process audio originating from other programs. However, Soundflower can be used for more general audio routing tasks, patching either 2- or 16-channel data at 32-bit sample depth between any applications that support standard Core Audio driver selection. Soundflower can also be selected as a "default device" in the Audio/MIDI Setup utility for programs such as iTunes that do not allow the selection of a specific output device.

Soundflower is being released as a free download on Cycling '74's web site cycling74.com, and will be made an open source project. The source will be available within the during the first quarter of 2004.

For more information, visit their web site at www.cycling74.com.

COOL, yet another audio router! BTW: It is actually AppleĀ“s Audio Core which has this implemented already... it allows easier and better routing of streams! Audio Core rules!

Soundflower is a free open-source utility for connecting audio applications. Version 1.1 lets you monitor any connection with a new application called Soundflowerbed.
