Hello all,

Maybe some of you can help me. I recently borrowed and may purchase a Metasonix TM-1. I cant seem to tell if it's working properly. I've been plugging an array of equipment from a guitar, a dat machine and a pulse generator etc,etc.. in the audio input as well as various tone generators into the ringmod carrier section, the vca cv and the beam cv and the only time i get any fluctuation in sound is when it's in the vca cv. The owner, a trusted friend was present when i did all this and he basically said "yep, doesn't do much, thats why im selling it". He doesn't have the users manual so i dont know if im doing something wrong. Also the tube isn't quite as bright as the Agonizer i recently saw someone demonstrating. Perhaps the tube is run down. It's a very dim red light.
Correct me if im wrong but isn't the input for the ring mod carrier supposed to alter the sound? I mean, if i plug a low frequency sine wave in the input and a plug a higher frequency sw in the ring mod carrier, shouldn't i be hearing the sum and difference? There is no change to the signal at all. I've spent an hour trying everything and it just doesn't seem to do anything(except for when i plug something into the vca cv input).
Just wondering if other Tm-1 owners have experienced something similiar.
any info would be appreciated.

thanks
kirby,

PS: Its an older version, the gold colored one. Hope its not a goldbrick...hehe.

Hi, Kirby. welcome

I don't have a TM1, but you are right to expect the sound of a ring modulator to change significantly when you change the carrier input.

Hopefully, someone with a TM1 will chime in, or maybe we'll hear for Mr. Metasonix himself...

sorry to hear this TM1 has a problem. Probably the beam-modulator tube is bad. You need to drive the ringmod input with a REALLY strong signal, so keep that in mind.

Contact me directly, I can repair the module or at least send you a new set of tubes. Sometimes the tubes get damaged in shipment, and the new owner isn't aware it isn't working because they aren't familiar with the device.
