I know Greg and Howard need some recovery time (!), but are the tons of pix, audio, and video going to be available to the EM participants in any shape or form? Not having been to e-m 05, I'm clueless on this. Was the streaming feed archived? I'm sure some of us would be willing to PAY to get some of this material offloaded to CD/DVD, so let us know!

...No rush, of course. Rest up and relax. Read a book... Wink

I took a little video and will offer it up in wmv format in a couple of weeks.

I think we did a better job this year on that front. I think they'll be some really great EM06 stuff available along the way. In the mean time I'd love to see some pictures posted ppl took, I have some of my own I'll try to dig up.

All of the sessions (except the first two in the gallery) were recorded onto CD-Rs. I will check them soon to verfiy that the recordings came out ok.
At that point any of the artists can get a copy of theirs.
I will post a notice here and on the mailing list.

Hong captured photos and a brief video of every performance.
We will sort through them and pick out the good ones to post here.
We can send hi-res versions to the participants too.

We'll decide later if we want to make CDs/DVDs out of the material.
I know people took some great photos - I hope they will post them here.

From the performances I attended, Hong was very good on the video. Michael and I appreciate her doing the video for us. I wish I could have seen it. I watched a little in the beginning while Michael solo'd on our intro. I've always enjoyed her photos as well. I'm looking forward in seeing what she took this year.

I'm going to install some great software for uploading photo albums. Please stanby by. Maybe it will be ready in a day or two.

As for the sound recordings, we got almost every performance on CDR. It will take a lot of time to edit out the dead time, convert these to mp3 and post them. We may choose to release a CD instead. Please give us some time to work this out.

How easy / difficult would it be to create a podcast of each days entire program ? I understand Podcasts are not for everyone but it would be
an easy way to reach more people to the utopic euphoria that em-06 was.

Podcasts are not that difficult to make once we edit out the music on the CDRs and convert them to mp3s. Consider that we have 36 hours of material and a "not to difficult" job becomes a monumnetal task. I'm more inclined to put them up as a streaming program. But I would like to provide the artists with a copy of the recording.

Does the software allow captions?

I think wmv is the best format. Quick to load and small in size. QT are ok but a pain for PC users, who are the majority. Don't get me wrong; I like Macs.

The H264 scheme is quite cool. BTW, it would be smart to issue video podcast savvy files?? No? Shocked

Flash is presently the most-used video format on the web, and is from my testing the best looking. It is cross-platform, since everyone has the Flash plugin in their browser.

The downside is that you need Flash to create the .flv file, and not everyone has that by any means. And to stream it you need a Flash server, which isn't cheap. You can provide hinted downloads without Flash server though.

Therefore, Flash is out. . .but it does look good.

I'm in the process of integrating Gallery2 into the forum. If someone has a photo gallery (just a bunch of pics - nothing special) and would like to help me debug this software, please send me a PM and we'll give it a shot.

Thanks...

We have a video that is about 30 minutes long and contains short segments of almost every performance. It is about 320M as a wmv.
Is that too big to post here? Should we just post an excerpt and make the whole thing available as a DVD in the store?

I would suggest posting captured stills of everyone you have video for, post an excerpt, and make it available via the store.

Maybe, make it available to the artist to purchase the full footage available for their performance, for electronic press kit/demo purposes?

We'll be posting about 200 photos, including every performance, once Howard has the gallery software running. These will be 800x600.
Anyone who wants can get the hi-res versions of their photos. Hong retains the copyright but will give permission to use them. Please credit her if you publish them.
The 30 minute video contains all of the footage that we have. Individual clips range from a few seconds to one minute. Not sure yet what we'll do with that.

I've installed the Gallery 2 software. It probably has a few configuration problems, so consider this a beta test. Blue Hell and I have tried it out and it's probably ready to go.

Click on the little Gallery 2 link at the top right of any forum page.

The Gallery links to the forum login information (wish the store did that), so you don't have to log in to the gallery after you've logged into the forum.

If you have pictures, go ahead and try out the gallery. Let me know by PM if you run into any problems. It will accept movies - not just still images - but 320 MB is just too huge. Very Happy

Looking forward to seeing your pictures.

After a few people get some experience with Gallery 2, I'll post a general announcment on the forum. It is a good resource for posting pictures of interest to the community. If anyone post something inappropriate, please let an admin or moderator know.
