On the NM mailing list the question was raised as to how G2 patches could be saved along with the notes currently played. I will not duplicate the entire discussion here, just the final conclusion

He was right after all, you can get current notes it's just a
convoluted technique compared to the NM, you have to save into the
hardware rather than just load from the computer...

You must pick it up from the synth, load the patch, change the
chords, save the patch in the synth, close the editor, open the
editor and when you have the patch on screen save it on your desktop
and the chord should be in there, let me know

Weirdly enough when I started experimenting I found that it saved the
notes in the patch without saving to the hardware about 10% of the
time... but I couldn't nail it down.
