On their website, Analog Devices will provide up to two free samples of this chip (and many others), which is good, since they're really hard to find. |

& you can do repeat sample orders too (!!!)
Though I haven't tested just how many times you can repeat order without getting them to refuse you --- and, also, get some friends to sign up for you.!. _________________ http://www.bugbrand.co.uk

i´ve heard you have to wait 90 days before reordering.
Do they have high-end opamps for audio preamps or compressors?
Which are the good ones?
Most other Companys also offer samples, most often you have to pay for shipping though. |

I didn't poke around too much, but I've heard of alot of people getting samples. So here's my question, Whats I gotta do? Do I need to sign up and ask for samples or is there a particular link? Thanks sorry for sounding like a dumb butt. _________________ "your stripes are killer bro" |

Look around their site. With many items there is a button "add to sample cart". You have to sign in to an account, answer some questions, guarantee that you will not build an atomic bomb or deliver the chips to cuba, and there you go.
Note that this is normaly dedicated to companies or people setting up some buissenes. On the other hand most companys like ad are glad to send you those presents for their pr. Cheap way to get you to visit their website and to feel related to AD, compared to running a comercial during super bowl. |

I've got loads of free samples from National, Analog Devices, TI, Maxim, Atmel, you name it! I haven't done the free sample thing in a couple of years, actually, so I don't know if any of them have changed their policies. Some would make you wait a week, but you could order several at a time. They'd always arrive UPS Red, or FedEX Overnight, or something similarly overkill, from some factory in South East Asia (Phillipines, Malaysia, etc).
The idea behind samples is that they want to expedite designer's prototypes so the bigger orders will roll in. That's why they ship stuff so blazingly fast. But maybe that, too, has changed. I seem to remember TI being the best about the quantity and speed of shipment.
I once even got some free accelerometer-on-chip devices from Analog when they first came out. Oh, the amazing self-balancing gyrocopter! What fun. Too bad it's long gone.
Anyway, each manufacturer has their own set of hoops for you to jump through, and some will eventually cut you off. National, in particular, but I guess I put my hand into that cookie jar one too many times.... *smack* |

I used to be in the IC business. They make their money on big volume orders. Giving away samples is a speculative investiment for them. A certain percentage of experimenters will develop something with commercial potential. Most people take into production the devices they use in their prototypes.
Making a sale in the IC business takes years. If you want to get Nokia to use one of your chips in a cell phone, or Apple to put one on the motherboard, you have a very big long-term project on your hands. Giving away samples to experimenters is just another aspect of the business. Analog Devices has always been one of the best companies when it comes to supporting experimenters. _________________ --Howard

I tried for these chips, and when I got to the checkout they it realised I was from Australia and referred me to an e-mail address of someone in Sydney and told me to complete my order with them. I e-mailed the person, but it's been over 2 weeks now and no reply.
