I am interested in eye candy/music visualizers. Following links I came across Neon, which is built into Xbox360 consoles. I had a brief play this morning in a retail store and it is nice but maybe not the quantum leap forward that the hype has suggested.
Milkdrop, Ryan Geiss’s 2nd generation winamp plugin, is quite old now but compares well I think.
Anyway, Neon has a lot of ‘playability’ where up to 4 controllers (2 analogue joysticks + 1 dpad each) can control various aspects of the video in real time.
I am not sure if the Xbox360 can be setup so that the visualisations respond to external audio, does anyone know?
I am also interested in any comments from a 360 owner who has had some time to play with Neon.

Well reading a bit more, seems the Xbox 360 Neon visualisation can work with audio streamed from MP3 player (acting as a USB flash drive?) So perhaps it will work with a USB microphone.
What might work better for a live performance is a custom MIDI or CV to Xbox controller converter. So your modular or sequencer could directly affect the video effect.

Perhaps an entire performance accompanied by Neon visuals, no matter how well synchronised, would be OTT.

It's like Pd or Max/MSP for visuals, interaction, and multimedia. Cool stuff.
