Hello all!

I have been playing in a live band with a drum machine for a while now, and have been using fairly primitive equipment (dr670), and inevitably have run out of memory space! I'm going to upgrade to a laptop, but am unable to grasp how I can plug it into an amp, how I can control the laptop from the front of the stage with foot-switches, what other hardware I need etc. Basically I really need a step-by-step process of exactly what hardware/software I need in between the Laptop and Amp to do this sort of stuff, model names/numbers aren't too important at this point. I am decidedly unfamiliar with any of this equipment so if anyone can lend me an understanding hand out of this digital swamp I would be very very grateful, and will help out anyone else when/wherever I can!

PS: I've looked over a few posts on similar topics but unfortunately, there was still a lot of information I couldn't find/couldn't understand, if someone could help me out that would be great!

Cheers!

Hi mapmouth

connecting the audio output of your laptop to the inputs of a PA system or connecting the audio output of a an audio interface (conncted via USB of Firewire to your laptop )to the inputs of a PA system

you need a USB to midi interface (that could be inside the abovementioned audio interface) to which you connect some kind of control surface that include footswitch inputs.
(easier done than explained Very Happy )

One of these will do everything. Audio in/out, some keys and knobs and sliders, and some MIDI connectivity to other devices. Other manufacturers make similar devices as well.

The other option would be to get just an audio interface that had a MIDI port and pick up a MIDI footswitch (if footswitches are what you are looking for, as you mentioned).
