Are there some people, from the Netherlands, on this forum who uses kyma Capybara? Perhaps there is someone who could give me an introduction on the system or share with me there experience. I am doing a little study research on it. I am a sound design student on the HKU Hilversum.

bij voorbaat dank.

mvg

Jeroen

Why not contact the Institute of Sonology. They are using Kyma.

Yes, it is the ultimate, but if you are doing modular synthesis then the NM G2 is much easier to use.

I think you can do a lot of what Kyma can do on a general purpose computer, but Kyma has a dedicated box with outstanding audio interfaces and up to 27 DSPs. It is incredibly powerful.

I cut my teeth on analog modulars so the G2 is very intuitive to me; I use it much more than the Kyma.

If you are going to be a professional sound designer, then the Kyma is a good choice. It has a long learning curve, but if one is a professional then that's not a problem.

I'm not a big expert on audio interfaces. I did meet a fellow that was the senior sound designer at a big game company who said the Capybara 320 had the best sounding converters he has ever used. It sounds good to me, but I don't claim to have heard many professional DACs.

Hi - for what it's worth - I posted my Kyma system for sale in the "Equipment/Software wanted/for sale" section of the forum.

I've not had my Kyma system long but I'm growing happier with it every day. I'm preferring its paradigm over that of Max/MSP for most things.
And I was pleasantly surprised by how GOOD the DACs and the algorithms sound.

Just a quick update. About a year ago, my Kyma system got knocked off the air because of a power surge due to a lightning strike. I finally got it fixed, a chip in the firewire interface was zapper. Symbolic Sound fixed it for $42 including shipping. Shocked

That included, BTW, a CD of the latest version of the software. I purchased my system originally nearly ten years ago.

They are absolutely the best company I've ever worked with. Absolutely.

Anyway, I started running it and listening to some of my older stuff and I was amazed the sound was so good. Really, it took me by surprise. I guess I had taken that sound for granted.

I'm no power user, but I've been working with Kyma for a couple of years, and I'll be happy to answer any questions I can.
