I know this may sound simple to most. But how do you transpose the Rack 2x up and down to match external sounds from other keyboards etc.? I really did not see this in the manual.

Thanks

Welcome aclmusic,

I'm sorry to don't know the answer to your question I'm sure someone else will (Wout ? help !)

As a matter of "forum order", wearing my janitor hat, I'd like you to read http://electro-music.com/forum/topic-5316.html - this is nothing personal but just to keep the forum pleasant to everyone.

Sounds strange, I know, but what do you really want to do? Matching to external sounds? You mean tuning? If you mean this, just press [SHIFT+Slot A] and the display will read [0].
Best is to play a note without any modulations (you may have to adjust some parameters to zero), press [SHIFT+ARP(2x)], so the synth is in [Hold-mode]. Then press [SHIFT+Slot A] and tune the synth using the up & down buttons beneath the display.

Uh... Manual page 59.

Thanks for the help. I would like to transpose the nord to match the key on my other keyboards. I can transpose my microkorg up and down 12 octaves along with my XP 50 to match a song as needed. I don't see how to do this on the nord rack. I see on page 61 how to activate keyboard octave shift but it does not tell HOW to shift the nord up and down octaves. I see how to "tune" the nord clearly.

Thanks.

Well, at first sight I thought this is what you meant, but it isn't that clear.

The NordRack2 has no keyboard to shift, of course...
This makes the Keyboard shift impossible to use, although you can activate it by pressing both buttons.
Only SlotOctaveShift will work, although it can only shift two octaves up and two down. More difficult it is using performances, specially when one SlotOctaveShift is not in the middle position.

Anyway, whats wrong with your other keyboards? If you play Midi Note 60, it won't sound like a C4? Twelve octaves to shift? I always thought ten were the most using Midi, although one can work using negative values...

I still want to understand what it is you want to do...

Let's try this. I create a sequence, I don't use MIDI for anything else but to trigger and sync keyboards. After I create a sequence I can adjust the sounds in semitone steps (+-12) before I record each track. Let's say I want to raise the entire sequence to "+6", this is easily done on most equipment. I would like to know if I can adjust the Nord rack in the same fashion. Most keyboards and modules have a dedicated function for this called "key shift" or "master transpose". This function is independent of the "tune" functions.

Thanks,

Not so easily on the Clavia instruments, though.
It has to do with the early Clavia philosophy: making musical instruments to be used in performances, where most keyboard players will transpose to a different key using their fingers rather then using a button (which setting can be forgotten playing the next song...)

In desperate need you can do this only using Osc2 and the Mix set completely clockwise or set in RingModulator mode, the same Mix setting Wink

There is NO factory button or knob to do this in steps of semi tones. The same philosophy goes for the Midi Through problem. Apart of the NL2(X), Nord Modular Classic and the Electro all Clavia synths can be transposed -/+ six semi tones and have Midi Through.

Anyway, setting a synth six semi tones higher then another will result in disharmony in some cases. I would prefer a second Midi Channel, adjust to the harmony.

Noooooooooooo! Dag nabbit! Thanks for the help. This is kind of a set back for me. So are you are saying that other Nord synths can be transposed up and down. This is really going to cramp my style. After I create a sequence I like the flexibility of simply transposing the whole mix up and down as I see fit. Sometimes you play something just right and you don't want to play something over in another key. I might even consider buying another Nord product and selling the 2x I hate anything slowing down the creation process.
It's not my style.

Thanks again Wout.

Considering the G2 or Engine wouldn't be your cup of tea and the Lead3 is out of production and very difficult to find in the shops, I should wait what NAMM will bring in for new gear, otherwise try the second hand market...
