Hi folks,

I sent my G2 in for USB repair in December, a half-year after warranty. Everything about the G2 worked, except it no longer could connect via USB to computers. I could play the already loaded patches, but no more editing via computer.

Based on what I heard on this forum (for example this link, http://electro-music.com/forum/post-42008.html#42008), and what the US distributor assumed, the problem was a faulty USB which needed replacement.

But the individual I sent the G2 for repairs says the problem is the "board" which apparently would be quite expensive to replace (though I have yet to hear how much), much more so than just sticking in a new USB kit. Maybe I just don't want to pay an exorbitant amount in repairs, but it seems odd to me that it "needs a new board" when everything about the G2 works, minus the USB.

Anyone have opinions on this matter, or hear of such a problem?

Thanks!
John

Unfortunately, this isn't uncommon. When you have a computer with a bad USB chip on the motherboard, the solution is always to get another motherboard. At least with a computer you have the alternative to buy and aux USB board and plug in into the bus. Anyway, my point is that repair people don't generally replace defective components on a board.

USB is apparently one of the weak links in the G2 design.

jcoursey, I'm very sorry to read about your G2 USB problem. I hope it's not very frequent!

Thanks everyone. dorremifasol, it's a G2 keyboard. we'll have to see how much a new board will be, or if they even do that kind of repair.

Is it true that Clavia has updated the design to fix the USB problem? i've enjoyed using nord modulars for a number of years now, and would hate to stop now, but I can't get burned twice.
