A Night of Electronic Music 2.0 Subject description: A good time was had by all ! |
 |
|
The unlikely setting of The Acoustic Coffeehouse stage was the site of last night's performance of EM that is rarely seen and heard in the Deep South.
Mahoney and Peck literaly filled the stage
with analog/digital/hardware/software and filled the room with their ethereal EM to a very attentive and appreciative crowd. Easy to see that these two have spent many hours rehearsing together to understand each other's available pallette of sonic surprises.
Mr. Mosc then bounded onto the stage to everyone's delight.
As he sat behind the mighty Nord G2X and put on his el-cheepo headphones, the crowd hushed. Grown men gasped and women wept openly as he began to play.... well, it might have been the beer.
I have never heard the Nord used live and was absolutely astonished at the seemingly effortless creation of oceans of auditory beauty and mystery. It was stunning, and those who had no idea what that little Nord had "under the hood" were no less impressed than I with the magificent sounds Mr. Mosc treated us to. Bravo !
The passionate and melancholy song he wrote, to honor those who were recently slain, was sung through the Nord's vocoder...
What better proof that all great musicians have a tender heart and compassion for the joys and sorrows of all mankind.
Perhaps I was the only one to notice that the footpedal, stand, headphones, and Nord G2X were all Mr. Mosc needed. No laptop or nearby towering rackmount goodies.... nope. Tear down after the show took him about 5-10 min. !!! Very impressive.
The Electro-Magnetic Duo opened the show with their twin theremins (and nearby black box containing 3 Moogerfooger pedals and an EDP). Add to this Mr. Peck's theremin and the total of 3 theremins in one evening made for a very rare musical event.
The 11 year old half of MDuo was so enthusiastic that they asked the audience if they had any questions !
Later that evening I asked him if the neighbors ever complained when he practiced ?
He looked at me quizzically and replied, "We don't have any neighbors....I live on a mountain." Last edited by ramechling on Mon Apr 23, 2007 8:05 am; edited 2 times in total |

No wonder I didn't get Howard on the phone when I called. | ramechling wrote: | | Add to this Mr. Peck's theremin and the total of 3 theremins in one evening made for a very rare musical event. | There were three Minimoog Voyagers on stage last night at The Gatherings... and a Synclavier II, too! But it sounds like y'all had a great time and made noise with friends. What in life could be better? ANSWER: The same thing with way more friends! See you at electro-music 2007!

I moved from JC in November 2004. But it also happened when I left Louisville KY and Austin TX before that. Just my luck. _________________ Agent D

Thanks, Richard, for the kind words about my performance. It was great to meet you there. Thanks for driving all the way from Columbia.
I took a few snaps and I'll post them on the electro-music.com gallery when I get a minute. I have tons of unanswered emails.
I enjoyed the Electro Magnetic Duo. Very much. Lots of fun.
Michael and Mark sounded superb. I enjoyed watching them work together in the rehearsal on Friday night. The music really came together well during their performance. I learned a lot from them.
It's great to see electro-musicians starting venues up like this in their home towns. It was an honor and a privilege to participate in this concert. Some of the locals were very supportive and encouraging. One gentleman said that this was the best entertainment value on Earth. Maybe that was the beer. _________________ --Howard
