hi

does anyone know about playing ac3/dts files in max/msp?

am running audio tests, whereby the listener has a laptop in a car, clicks a button and a multichannel audio stream is sent to an s/pdif out (on external interface) going into an s/pdif in on a digital amp (in place of a dvd player). listener can then record their subjective ratings using sliders on max.

any thoughts anyone? i have asked around in many places but seem to get no answer. cheers.

hi, as i am currently also trying to find out if that is generally possible, i wanted to ask if you alrady solved your issue?

i found an old message from 2005 on the synthesisters mailing list, sadly they say it's not possible
http://www.synthesisters.com/hypermail/max-msp/Sep05/30260.html

but some time passed since, so maybe anyone knows if that's possible - playing back ac3 files with max/msp?

thanks!

One way would be to have Quicktime assist. You could load the open source qtac3codec from Sourceforge, then use the Quicktime player object in Max/MSP.

I did not see this question over on the Max/MSP mailing list, nor is it in the forums on Cycling74. Just wondering where you were searching.
