midi to cv question Subject description: and several other newbee questions |

hey
im new here
ive been looking at all those great projects at mfos.com
and i wanna build a :
soundlab
16 x 2 Channel Analog Sequencer
and therefore the guitar trigger
a power supply for everything
and the midi to cv converter
so i just wanted to know if theres a way to check if i can use my keyboard
with this interface to controll the soundlab
(other then building and testing is..)
like measuring at the midi out while playing the keyboard and checking the signal or sumthin?
i dont know if i wanna build it at all if i cant use a key...
so i ask for your wisdom
ps: is it too.. megalomaniac to want to build all the stuff i listed above at once in one box if youve never built a synth before?(ive built some guitar stompboxed and have some pro electronic guys at work who could help me)
thanks |

Hi,
What you've proposed isn't impossible but it certainly is ambitious. I would start with the Soundlab, power supply, and midi-to-cv. That will give you a solid base to work with.
If you have the option, build the midi-to-cv first. Most designs are reasonably designed with not too many parts. You can build and test it with just a soldering iron and a voltmeter. The midi-to-cv will let you use your existing keyboard to generate the control signals the Soundlab wants. It'll make troubleshooting the Soundlab a lot easier.
Build those two and see what you get. |
