Please excuse me if I'm posting something everyone already knows. But I haven't seen any mention of it on this forum yet.

There is an extremely active and informative group of 4 Csound message boards at http://www.nabble.com/Csound-f480.html. (Why it's at nabble I have no idea.)

Of course, the main site for all things Csound is http://www.csounds.com. But I find that site sort of a "kitchen sink": there's a huge amount of information but it's difficult for a newb like myself to navigate. Try starting at the beginner's page: http://csounds.com/menu/beginners.html

A couple comments on Csound vs ChucK: they do have some similarities, but their design and "teleology" are completely different: ChucK is designed with live performance in mind, in that the synthesis engine runs continuously, and allows you to start, stop, add and remove threads (or as they call them "shreds") without stopping or interrupting the synthesis engine.

Csound on the other hand really shows its roots as a batch-oriented audio manipulation tool. That's why things like ben's http://myweb.nmu.edu/~benjohns/ "skwrk" are really interesting...

Anyway, hope some of these comments are useful.

(I also have a blog where I kvetch somewhat about the learning curve of a Csound newbie a lot of other computer music issues, you can check it out at http://csound.wordpress.com
