Cute. It's very Gamelan-esque. _________________ Garret: It's so retro.

thanks Paul.
It's an experiment with a new feature of LMSO: it's a new approach to retuning sample based (.sxt files) refills of Reason that allows to use Matrix. _________________ homepage - blog - forum - youtube

I found this a very pleasant scale to listen to, at least in this piece. The literature links are interesting as well (but it does get a bit much to read together with "music and the power of sound" , but I'll get there, eventually ).
Hey these are nice small factors, I'm going to try this one on the G2 (that one can not easily go beyond 31 in either numerator or denominator).
If I get it right on can just pick any diagonal line from the diamond figure to obtain another scale to experiment with? _________________ Jan

I find that a lot of these kinds of scales have to work in a particular mode or else they are really bad. This one seems like it's in its natural spot. I think the Greeks tuned each instrument to whatever it could do or something. It's tough to do experimental archaeology, you know. _________________ Garret: It's so retro.

Thanks Jan, the answer is yes, every diagonal line is a 7 step scale
I would love to hear hypophrygian noodles

I think that once you take a scale out of his original melodic, harmonic (if applicable), timbral context you are beyond archeology. The scale becomes a resource for new experimental sonic landscapes maybe reminiscent of old/ancient ones.

I like this very much. After your inspiring talk at Chateau Sonore, I'm really much more open to these alternative tunings. _________________ --Howard

hey,
are there any programs similar to LMSO that run on Windows machines.
Also, I'd be more interested in a user friendly program than an extremely adaptable one. |

Thanks!
I was planning on trying to explore the scale as well, but ran into a pretty major roadblock. |

It's got more structure. Are you using some algorithmic components to this as well as the tuning? There are sections that remind me of old Dr T's Tunesmith output. It's cool sounding. _________________ Garret: It's so retro.

Thanks Paul, I had Tunesmith on my Atari, 20 years ago but no, I am not using any algorithmic component. That effect depends on the use of Reason's step sequencer (the above mentioned "Matrix"). _________________ homepage - blog - forum - youtube

Seraph,
I really like this track. You utilized non-ET tuning and created music that has great spirit and holds one's interest.
While the intervals are a bit "jarring" at first, one is quickly drawn in to the musical world you created.

thank you very much Kevin but, as far as "jarring" intervals are concerned you should be an expert I just listened to your CowboySong and let me tell ya, there is plenty of jarring intervals there ...but I love it _________________ homepage - blog - forum - youtube
