Hello all!

Just to let you know I'm sP who writes the Sentric Music blog! I'm fully and real and everything and there is nothing fake about my blog! Sentric is an independent Music Publisher and I write the blogs every week to give advice to unsigned and independent artists. I give away a track every week by a Sentric artists as as active part of the promotion of our clients (as the blog can receive up to 500 views a week our artists like to get their music heard!)

The reason it was 'dark on dark' was because at first it was my HTML ignorance that meant i didn’t know how to do href things. But if you look at this weeks post you'll see that i've figured ut how to use Wordpresses html link maker! But, my ignorance on HTML still shows by the fact every paragraph is a different font and size for some reason (I think it's because i copy and paste it from word 2007)

Any how, just came across this as wordpress told me i was receiving views from a link from here and once i read what was said i thought i'd just let you know i'm not fake! I enjoy writing the blogs and i do put a fair amount of effort in them (they're more aimed at 'indie' music as thats what i know).

But i might as well leave on a little advert! I manage an electro artist called Clipe Sexo Amador! (www.myspace.com/clipe) - if you want half price guestlist to his gig on friday then let me know and i'll sort you out!

Cheers,

Simon

Ahh.. right... damage control.

You know perfectly well that the texts you have published fit the viral marketing profiles. You are using ffinder client files for content.. and more. And now you are buying us off. Cool Laughing

That is what the evidence is telling us. You still have to roll the Creative Cultures deal.. the real story.

Also: Amy Woodhouse, Chris Meehan, and Leo Belchetz.

As for the Creative Cultures network... the IP traces are all over the web and they lead one place. All this can be researched and it is quite fun.

Promoting artists.. fine.. inventing fake characters and lying... less cool.

So, here´s the deal. You guys stay out of here.

Let me get this straight;

*You are working in marketing.
*Your blog "can receive up to 500 views a week".

This makes me want to know even more about how much you guys are charging for this stuff.

What's so hard about this? Just tell us how much you are charging to spam fora like ours. Of those "up to 500", how many listen to a track? What does it cost to have one's track there?

Where have we ever said that your blog can get upto 500 views per week and we'll charge you?! We don't even use blogs as bloggers choose to put links up, not marketing companies!

I've pm'd elektro80 with a full run down of Creative Cultures, the fact we don't pretend to be people we're not (we would have responsded in that way if we could log in) and that we don't have any false alias' - we have 2 - CC001 and cre8 to my knowledge. Any questions about this thread, ask elektro80 as we have explained fully....

We are trying to build a community here based on shared values. Deception is not one of these values. I personally think is quite sad that musicians would pay someone to do viral marketing on their behalf. The lure of fame and success has superseded the joy of the music itself.

We don't have contests here. We try to encourage everyone. We support each other. To us, the joy of music for its own self transcends music as a business. This doesn't mean that many of us don't try to earn from our music, but we respect music and the creative process enough to keep it in the realm of integrity.

The members of this community contribute their time and money as volunteers. Sentric, please use whatever influence you have to see that electro-music.com is removed from the list of viral marketing targets. There are places on the internet where this is apparently appropriate, but not here.

Thanks.

Oh, blast, just when I wanted to tell you about this great online casino I found!

;¬)

Wise choice, I don't like the atmosphere of paranoia that this form of marketing is bringing. Without a good filter Email is now un-usable so spammers switch to hitching a ride on people's trust of each other.

Uh... lets not forget the being bought-off part. Just how large a pecuniary insult to my families honor and myself am I going to have to bear?

I heard spammers place emphasis on it being "just business". Not sure if that helps?

We have an update here.

Posted Image, might have been reduced in size. Click Image to view fullscreen.

Named, shamed and disqualified!

Excerpt:

Quote:
This year we’ve been appalled and disgusted to discover suspicious voting irregularities in our Top 100 DJs poll.

For the first time ever, now that DJmag is wholly independent again, the votes in this year’s poll have been collated in-house, and while in previous years we’ve relied on technology to weed out suspect votes, this year it’s been proved that there’s nothing more effective than the naked eye.

With 345,000 votes cast by email, publisher James Robertson has spent a ridiculous number of man-hours going through each vote. His discoveries have resulted in several DJs being disqualified from this year’s poll.

Roberston explained: “This year, I made a decision to investigate votes where the same IP address appeared over 50 times for the same person. The chances of the same person getting voted for by 50 different computers each having been allocated the same IP address within a week would be billions to one.”

The biggest DJs at the centre of our investigation were US stars Christopher Lawrence and DJ Dan. Both shared the same marketing manager.

Cool, next will be James Robertson sacking himself for using Fat Phil and the viral drones for marketing the DJ Mag top 100 poll. I cannot see it is less embarassing to cheat the way he has done with his viral marketing than what these DJs have done. It seems that James Robertson only has integrity when he thinks it´s cute to have integrity.

Maybe this press-release is just another way to look for attention. Maybe they got 37 real votes in total so far of which 12 were for directors, politicians and one well-known host of a TV show on cooking, the remaining 25 could be voting for themselves....

It´s amazing that James Robertson is going public with the poll cheating when he has been busy promoting the Top 10 Poll using deception and lies. He has had his shit on a trillion of websites all over the web and he thought people wouldn´t notice? Of course they noticed and I reckon one important part of the message was that DJ Mag is all for an honest bit of cheating.

...this is all so predictable. i reiterate that the tos should be modified to specifiy what e-m charges per post for anyone who posts promotional material, period.

a wavier can be obtained by anyone who is a contributing memeber of the forum.

....this seems extreme perhaps, but seriously, not only is there negative value to having viral marketing feel at home here, there is virtually no value of having non-contributing members promote their events or music. i bet one of you with administrative access can look at all members with only one post...and i bet most of them are "look at my shit".

personally, i'm happy for people to pimp their music, company, or product if they are also contributing...otherwise they should be paying for running the site.

Anyone can : http://electro-music.com/forum/memberlist.php it's sortable on various criteria and once you waded through all the 0 post members there is long list of 1 post members.

...i don't have the patience to wade through all this....i couldn't get past the zeros, but working backwards, i got to those with 3 posts.....a random check of 5 of these shows that most of them are non participants that are only pimping their music. no value at all.

i know howard wants to keep things as open as possible (and i think his heart is in the right place), but it really doesn't enrich the site for people to just pimp their stuff...nevermind the viral marketing stuff.

Not only Howard wants that Very Happy

Some music posted here I never would have heard otherwise, and I think it's not only OK there is room for such things here (as long as it's done in an honest way) it's a must as well.

I agree. Individuals trying to get their music out, I agree this is a venue. No, a lot of them don't come around much - but look at Sadi and her NZ band, regular postings and interesting stuff. Pity she doesn't stop to talk much, but she's also in an active band. Which of us is? Not a rhetorical question, I am curious. I am not, for the record.

But liars are liars. These cheap marketing tricks are just naff. If it's a musician with no money, it's one thing, but if someone just paid a crapload of ad budget for people to spam (yes, it's spam, they are making money without paying for services) forums like this, no, that's not right. There's a fair use expectation.

...don't get me wrong...i'm all for people posting their music. i just don't think that a community is made up of people that _only_ want to post their music.

i don't pay the bills here, and i wouldn't presume to tell anyone how to run their website...but i will offer an observation.

at the electro-music events, performers who show up right before their set, play, and then leave don't offer much to such an event (at least to my way of thinking). obviously, sometimes people have schedule issues, other gigs, kids, etc, and i'd make exceptions for this kind of thing.

one of the more interesting performances at em07 was just such a performance (i won't name names here, as i don't think there is anything to be gained, and i doubt the person is on the board anyways). the person showed up, setup, played, and left. it was a GREAT set...more interesting, daring, professional and "live" than many...but it contributed less to the spirit of the event than others.

people posting "hey give me some feedback on my music" who don't listen to (and give feedback) on other music available here (or contribute in some other way) are not adding value to this site...it's a one way benefit.

that said, this viral marketing is sure to get more sophisticated and harder to track....the easyist way to discourage this is to require users to contribute in _some_ way. yes, there is a downside, but look at those one post memebers saying "listen to my music"...i don't think there is much to be lost.

that said, i'll shut up now,
