Update |
|
|
I spoke with an Alesis sales guy yesterday. Reading between the lines, it sounds like the A6's will be shipping in the next month or so. It sounded to me like there's a custom chip on the A6 that is also used on some other Alesis gear, too, but the A6 uses a LOT of these chips, whereas only one or two are used on the other equipment.
So, my guess (again, me reading between the lines), is that the other gear that only uses one or two of these chips is probably a higher seller than the A6, so they decided to run a batch of the other thing first, and the A6 will follow.
But the sales guy was emphatic that the A6 is not being discontinued any time soon.
In the meantime, I've got my MFOS WSG nearly completed; I'm just waiting on some pots to come in (I thought I had enough on hand, but they were the wrong value...)

You will be reading between the lines for a long time.
Mars is watching for the next wave of analogs. |

Sunny, Thanks for looking... I already found that posting earlier and emailed the guy about it. They don't actually have any in stock. Just like every other dealer who is advertising A6's, if you order that synth, you're just put on the waiting list like everywhere else.
Frankly, I'm kind of surprised eBay lets a seller advertise something he doesn't actually have available for sale. _________________ Shameless plug: http://www.soundcloud.com/rh2y

I returned a Prophet 08 about a week and a half ago so that I can be back on the A6 waiting list. Its a great synth ,there is no doubt about it, but to me it seemed rather limited in its sonic capabilities due to its low pass filters.
I only had it for a week , but I recorded a few of the patches I made with it. Let me know if you all would like me to post them.
Thanks for the update rh2y. |

Sorry to hear you were disappointed with the Prophet. I've been giving it some thought, along with the mono Evolver keyboard. I figure the MEK is a lot less expensive than the P08 or the Poly Evolver, so I might be able to swing getting one and still getting the A6 when it finally comes in. I'll have to see.

I wouldn't mind hearing an MP3 of the audio. The patches themselves won't do me any good, as I don't own a P08, but maybe some of the other folks on here (Mars?) would be interested in them.

Sure. It sounded like good news to me. Of course, sales people are often predisposed to giving you good news even when the news really isn't that good, but I think there's still hope for new A6's arriving soon.
I'm hoping to get my WSG together this weekend. Been waiting on some pots to come in, plus some time to put it together.

There's a whole bunch of those, I tried buying a few already I agree it's totally disingenuous, shouldn't be allowed (but I guess there's no way for eBay to control that).
But the poking around paid off eventually, I found a used one on eBay that turned out to be the real thing, and in perfect condition, as good as new - I got it yesterday whoo-hoo!
The guys at Sweetwater (where I usually shop, and where I placed my order for the A6 in August...) still sound optimistic about a mid-December-ish delivery date for the next batch. If that turns out to be true, I suppose I could have waited a couple of more weeks, but, man - I've been monitoring this thread for months with increasing dismay at every news! So when I finally found one used I figured what the heck, it's a bit of risk admittedly, but this time it turned out ok (I think - at least I haven't found any problems with it yet..)
Well I hope you get yours eventually, after all this - and thanks for keeping this thread alive with updates! |

Neat!
Thanks for posting. There's definitely a "vintage synth" character to the first
patch. Was the second one multitracked, or just multitimbral?
I finally had a few minutes in the studio this weekend -- I recorded my old SN94281 machine (my "avatar" picture is of this beast), which I built 25 years ago as a science fair project.
Sure, this is a little off-topic, but thought those reading this thread might be interested.
I would classify this more as a "demo" than an actual composition.

Just be sure that the "new" A6 you order is actually NEW! I ordered one from 8th Street as new, and paid the going rate for a new one only to receive not only a used one, but a lemon at that! I've since recovered and found a used one on eBay that is working fine, so that's the good news.
Good luck. it's an amazing synth. I really love it.

rh2y, the second demo is multitracked and i added a touch of reverb to both demos.
amnesia, the guys over at sweetwater (www.sweetwater.com) were nice enough to let me try one for a week. they have a great return policy. |

The new ETA for the andromeda in the U.S. is that there no longer is an ETA. It hasn't been officially discontinued, but they don't know when the next batch will be available. Why I still have hope? ....I dont know lol |

RoHS Andromeda |

I just called my sales rep to see what his version of the story is. He said he talked to his Alesis rep earlier this week, and what has been going on is that the A6 and a bunch of other Alesis products were being redesigned for RoHS (lead-free) compliance. The A6 was at or near the bottom of the list, as it's not the biggest volume seller. It has now been redesigned for RoHS compliance, but is waiting to be manufactured. No ETA on that.
If that's all true, it's short term bad news, as it means they haven't even hit manufacturing yet. But it's long term good news, as you wouldn't bother to RoHS-certify a product you didn't intend to keep selling for a while.
I guess it's a good metaphor --- I hope Alesis soon gets the lead out so I can get my new synth! (pun intended)
In the meantime, I finished up the electronics portion of my Weird Sound Generator; just need to finish up the wooden case for it and then I'll see about posting some MP3's. I'm sure you all can hardly wait.

Thats good news rh2y, thank you for the update.
Im definitely looking forward to more of your demos. I downloaded your last one and kept it in my sample library for some mangling fun with Battery 3. |

I've contacted ProAudioStar before, and they didn't actually have one for sale. Bidding on that item just puts you in the queue to get one when they come in. I'm surprised eBay allows this. Maybe they finally got one in; I'll have to check, but I suspect it's still the same. I haven't heard of any other dealers getting any in yet.
Thanks for looking, though! _________________ Shameless plug: http://www.soundcloud.com/rh2y
