Call me necromant, but I've just stumbled over this thread and found it interesting.
I'm currently cheating by reducing my backlog with selling some of the projects which I have twice or which are not that important or too big for me (9090, MB808).
Outboard (20)
2 x Forssell Opto Compressor
4 x Nite EQ
2 x Mnats 1176 Rev J Compressor
2 x Mnats 1176 Rev D Compressor
1 x Dual LA2A
2 x GSSL (both almost finished)
1 x Dual Sontec EQ
2 x Pultec EQP-1
2 x Pultec EQ
1 x Calrec EQ in my own PCB design (stuck in the debugging phase and I don't find the error and have lost interest in it)
1 x JLM Audio Baby Animal mic pre (PCB stuffed)
Synth-Stuff (56)
2 x Haible Krautrock Phaser
1 x Haible Tau Phaser
2 x Wogglebug
1 x TLN-156 Neural Agonizer
1 x MOTM-480
1 x MOTM-440
1 x MOTM-820
1 x MOTM-120
1 x MOTM-410
1 x 909 BD
6 x Fonitronik Attenuverting Mixer
1 x Fonitronik PS3100 (don't know if this is redundant with the MOTM-410)
5 x MFOS ADSR
2 x MFOS Dual VCA
1 x MFOS Stereo Panner
1 x MFOS State Variable VCF
1 x MFOS Noise Cornucopia
1 x Papareil VCO
4 x Papareil DBX VCA
4 x Papareil DS8
1 x Papareil Polivoks Filter
1 x Papareil Miniwarp Ringmod
2 x CGS04 DC Mixer
1 x CGS24 Gate2Trig
1 x CGS29 Lockhart Wave Folder
1 x CGS36 Pulse Divider & Boolean Logic + 1 x CGS54 XOR XNOR Logic addon
1 x CGS40 Modulo Magic
1 x CGS56 Pulse Buffer (PCB stuffed)
1 x CGS58 Utility LFO
2 x Anyware Instruments VCO (PCB stuffed)
1 x PT80 delay (PCB almost completed, ran out of some capacitors)
1 x Accenter Tool (PCB stuffed)
1 x Doepfer A-145 LFO (PCB stuffed)
1 x Polivoks PCB (PCB stuffed)
1 x Thing-a-ma-kit (PCB stuffed, destroyed the housing because I cannot drill, at least my body didn't suffer)
1 x ML-303 v6 (fully completed and working but I'm too anxious to glue the display frame to the housing )
Other stuff (7)
1 x Transistor-6 - The sequencer part of the ML-303
2 x MidiBox CV
1 x MIDI-Thru-Box (breadboard, almost completed)
1 x Sansamp GT2 clone (PCB stuffed)
1 x ShuffleBox
1 x Das Plus distortion - A clone of a famous guitar distortion unit but I forgot which one (works but I need to drill the housing, see above for a comment about my drilling skills)
Argh, if I counted correctly that makes 83 projects in the backlog. Mostly unstuffed PCBs because I don't have a place for that many stuffed ones waiting for a housing/frontpanel. And I'm currently out of money to buy parts/frontpanels/housings.
And an additional reason is that I'm too anxious to build up a power supply for my big (Dotcom/MOTM) modular synth.
I think I'll need to sell further stuff because of that.
Damned DIY GAS. Last edited by sonicwarrior on Mon Mar 04, 2013 5:00 am; edited 1 time in total |

That's quite the backlog. Good luck!
If I had posted a couple months ago I would have had something to compare to that, but I've building full steam ahead lately. _________________ " I went through quite a few trannies til I found one I liked" - Wild Zebra |

Heh, good to know I'm not alone at least.
Mostly what I lack are resistors. Lots, and lots of them. In my last draft of my master, all-in-one-order BOM, I had 1000 100K resistors. Attached is said document, though in light of lots of clutter I decided to start from scratch again.
Oh, and panels, god, panels :[ (and pots, and knobs, yikes...)(oh, and a case...)
In no particular order:
Blank (or a few components at most) PCB
2x JH Scanners
Just want it as a scanner, not the chorus effect. Still have virtually nothing for it.
1x JH Varislope Filter/Phaser
Have some of the odd ICs.
1x SN-Voice (I've another on the way - least it is coming as a kit though!)
Have one SN chip, one tempco, will need another set for the other board.
1x Big Muff Pi clone
Desire to mod has kept it at bay from completion)
1x Seb Francis Fat Controller (MIDI-CV interface)
Lots of exotic ICs needed.
1x Klee Sequencer board set
Have all the pots.
1x Elby Designs PSU
Wondering if I'll even finish this, or if I should get a big Pro One PSU.
1x Magic Smoke Electronics Thomas Henry El Cerrito VCO (have
Have all the ICs, and to my credit I only picked this up last week.
1x MOTM-510 Wavewarper
Have the AD538 analog computer IC, $65, ow. All other ICs are a go.
2x Fonik PS3100 Resonator clones
Vactrols in place as seen.
2x UD-1 Drum Voice
Have the LM566 VCOs.
2x Thomas White Buchla LPG clones
Have the Vactrols; want to mod so res has a Vactrol VC element as well.
1x Harry Bissell Pitch-to-Voltage converter/guitar synth (last one there is according to H^)
It's huuuge. Like, 14" x 8"
1x Tellun Doomsday Machine
Have all the pots, and some tiny knobs to get it to all fit in one panel.
1x Appendage Ribbon Controller (to be shipped soon)
Have the SoftPot, probably most of the ICs.
Partially Populated:
1x Magic Smoke Electronics Thomas Henry Mankato VCF
Them resistors, I needs em. Also 5 and 7 pin MTA headers fit better than the silkscreened 2 and 3 pin, so I need some of those.
1x Ken Stone CGS Super Psycho LFO
Few odd resistors and headers.
1x Ken Stone CGS Saw Pitch Shifter
Multiturn trimers.
1x Ken Stone CGS Synthacon VCF
Wana do some mods, and there's a silkscreen error I need to asses out to be sure what and where to put some parts.
2x Ken Stone CGS Rene Schmitz VCA
SMT bypass caps (have, not soldered yet though) - one was started with 5% resistors, the other 1% - want to covert the 5 to a 1.
1x Ken Stone CGS CMOS Wasp VCF
Reeeeesistors...
1x Ken Stone CGS Bi-N-Tic VCF
Bits here and there.
1x YuSynth Saw Animator
Multiturn trimmers, replacing some 5% with 1% resistors
1x JH Living VCOs
Them resistors, mhmm. Planing a coarse/fine tune scheme, versus JH's preferred (and expensive ;/) multiturn pot setup. I have to fix some wrong ICs too :[
2x Prototype MS-20 clones
One has the wrong parts soldered it, doh, the other I just haven't gotten around to...
3x MPS Drum Synth
Each is more populated than the last, though I suspect I put the wrong value caps in one.
1x Ian Fritz 5pulser
Have the rest of the parts, need to solder.
1x WTPA? 8-Bit Sampler
Few odd ICs, case.
1x MFOS Soundlab (Original)
I will use this as the core to my modular setup (still in progress as this posts attests to..), though I need to do the upgrade mods, or I'll sell it, perhaps as-is, and get the Soundlab Ultimate and Expander.
1x MFOS WSG
There's some Scott Stites Vactrol mods I'll et to someday, though arguably all the potential power in the the aforementioned gear can do all it can do a hundred fold.
I won't even get into my wishlist!
My camera's broken so all I had was my webcam for some crappy pix...

So weird to see this thread resurrected. About a year and a half ago I posted my backlog as of then - it's changed considerably since then. It's about the same size, just has mostly different stuff on it - I managed to get a lot done in the interim! |

Hey De_
On those 2 and 3 pin headers, you're right in that some of them can be a tight fit on the PCB when they're right next to each other. A simple solution that I've found is to just sand the sides very lightly with an emery board or some sandpaper. Just sand the sides where they meet and you can easily make them fit together very nicely. This way, all I do is buy the 2 and 3 pin parts and I'm all set. Of course, you can also just skip the connectors and wire directly to the board, but I like being able to disconnect the panel parts easily for routing, toubleshooting, swapping, etc. BTW, thanks for buying a Mankato and an El Cerrito. Now get back to soldering!

You people are freaking insane. If I had a backlog like that I don't know how I'd feel, good or bad. My short list:
o Receive, distribute, and construct Karplus Strong first run boards.
o Prototype Boolean Sequencer board.
o Make Chiphenge Lunetta sculpture
o barter for grab-bag kits
o Populate some Karplus Strong boards for customers
o Design way cool modular boards for you!
That's my short list, hope you enjoyed it...

Man, so many DIY folks have such huge backlogs. I'm thinking of offering my boards assembled as well as in kit form. If the price of assembly is reasonable, would you pay the extra to have the assembly done for you?

My backlog is large, I did near squat in 2009 but still bought some more boards... in part from memory
2 Klee
2 Appendage
10 281 Eg
3 CGS VCO
2 JH VCO
TAU
2 185 sequencer (i have the switches but amking a panel to accomodate them is killing me)
All sorts of CGS stuff, just loads and loads, VCS monsoon
and tons of stuff I have forgotten
I am rediscovering how much I love every part of the process except for drilling panels, that is what most often slows me down, and I have begun to do them many at a time. Heres keeping my fingers crossed for 2010. |
