Subject description: Timestamps for MIDI signals

Hi all

Hope you guys can help. I'm currently using MIDIOX to monitor MIDI output from sequencers. MIDIOX provides a list of MIDI messages received in a tabular format. One of the fields in the table is Timestamp.

I don't know whether MIDI signals inherently contain timestamp data. What I need to know is:

Do you think the Timestamp field in MIDIOX is

a) read from the incoming MIDI message, therefore, not necessarily an indication of MIDIOX received the message?
b) a record of when MIDIOX received the message?

If anyone can provide some help on this, that would be really helpful.

Thanks

Dovder

I don't know what MIDIOX does, but in windows it is possible to get timestamped MIDI messages from the OS.

I've found out they are MIDIOX's own timing of the data it receives, measured in milliseconds, and irritatingly expressed in hex.
