Which is probably why my latest order also contains a stack of blank panels. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

Just got a Blofeld - Analogue Haven is ebaying them for a reasonable price, and they shipped quickly. Nobody else seemed to have them in stock.
Anyway - the CDR that came with it is, er, empty? I checked it in multiple drives, and it doesn't seem to be readable, even though you can see (physically) that it was burned with a small file. What was supposed to be on it? The manual?
How have people managed to use the USB connector - does it auto install, or are the drivers on my mysterious blank disc?
Loving this thing.

So, after a weekend with my new Blofeld, I have a question for experienced microwave users. I'm new to wavetable synthesis (other than my MiniWave), so please bear with me. What simple-settings would give the best approximation to the wavetable behavior of the microwave series? How did the microwave scroll through its wavetables? Did is use a linear-ramp? I found that using Pulsewidth=0, PWM Amt.=max, PWM source=Env3, with Env3 in an AD mode seemed to sweep through most of the table. Oddly, with even with Sustain=0 it doesn't reach the lowest table-entry until you release the key. I suspect that the AD envelope is exponential (it's drawn as such) - were the primary wave-table modulators exponential as well?
Maybe an example would be good here. Certain wavetables were designed, I imagine to mimic particular sounds, like the PercOrgan. The table was designed and "sampled" at a given period, with a particular modulation source in mind (linear, exponential, sinusoidal, etc.). What modulation settings give me the XT default?
Another example - sure it's nice to be able to modulate a wave-table, but because LFO's are bi-polar, they're not particularly well suited for this task (the waveform sticks on #0 every time the LFO dips negative). Blofeld of course has Modifiers to take care of this (offset the LFO by a constant). Did you have to play games like this on the XT, or was the architecture different?
Last question - any word whether a later OS will allow user-defined wavetables? Am I dreaming?

I own an XT but not a Blofeld so I am unable to answer some of your comparative questions. What I use to sweep through the wave tables is the envelope specifically designed for the job. You can also assign lfos and numerous other modulations, but there is a wave envelope with 16 control points which gives you linear modulations. There are 8 points (level/time) to the envelope and it can be looped. You can assign the depth in which the modulations effect the wave tables. There is also a free envelope to be used for whatever purpose you might need it for. As far as scrolling through the wave tables, each of the two oscillators has a knob in which you can scroll though and assign the starting point of the table. I've not heard of another OS available. That said, I am quite happy in how the XT operates. With all those knobs, it's very tweakable in live performance. _________________ Mark Mahoney

I'm not sure if you're active on DSF, but I read there that midi out over USB works but has to be activated in some menu somewhere. Dive into your manual!! _________________ Spinning at ~0.0000115740740741 Hz |
