Just wondering if the Akai MPC's can do time stretching or any other granular tricks?

I know the 2500 can do timestretching but not in real time. It's all offline processing. I think the 500 and 1000 can too.

the 500 and 1000 can definitely time stretch. I have a 1000 and and 500.
On the 500 there are not any visual cues except for numbers. the 1000 shows the wave form. MPC's are cool and all, but If time stretching and granular synthisis is what your worried about, why not just use your DAW?

The MPC 1000 & MPC 2500 can do real time timestretching if you have the JJOS alternate OS for it...
