hi everyone,
i'm searching for a software i could play on stage, for electro-music, dub-drumn'bass, with strange things trigged by voice and squarepusher-like fxs, easy to use with stretching to adapt tempo.
I have a Windows xp pro..
i hear talk about "abelton", "max","Usine", "acid"...

thank's a lot for your advices
Respect
Rosa

You can start with Ableton Live

http://www.ableton.com/live

It is just a matter of downloading the demo and then spend some time figuring out if it does what you think you want it to do. Very Happy

If you are a beginner, do not go with Max/MSP. You might find compositions other people have done which may be useful but don't even think of trying to work in Max/MSP now. I don't usually say this. But I think a lot of people start with it and get overwhelmed. Make music, instead.

I personally use Ableton LIVE 7.0 with Dblue GLITCH plug-in. Oh what a plug in man !! I really like to use this.

Glitch Plug-In - FREE Download

http://www.kvraudio.com/get/1904.html

But check out the "RENOISE" tracker if you are interested in doing Squarepusher type stuff. A tracker may be the best choice and it will work with Glitch also for a really glitched out set Very Happy

what a Live cut!
Dblue Glith have nice colors!
does the crazy Squarepusher work with this stuff?
do you know Smartelectronix.com?
since a few, i try the job with the Live kits in Usine, it's still like Squarepusher!
but it is so different than Smartelectronix man,
you can move the windows inside the interface!
copy paste is easy inside the patch, and you can put them in interface
it took a bit of time to enter in...but now i work a lot with it
can save my songs with my free version, you know...trigg some bass-drums and samples lines with my dij, man!
they even talk to calculate tempo...Rolling Eyes Very Happy
i downloaded Renoise,it looks impressive,i was thinking to the fim Matrix.
with the vertcal lines.
i went into mixer, but can't find audio in to plug my things Sad
i can't save my sond either...
the man on your link video plays computer keyboard so so fast!
he was programming! Shocked Surprised

Apps like Ableton are based on being a host for the use of VST(i) plugins.
An alternative for live performance (no voice-triggering I'm afraid) is using the open-source ModPlug editor.
To be found here
It's the tracker-module concept, using single sample-wavs and/or VST plugins, and patterns of codes.

The latest development has the ability to create a live, self-chosen playback of the work.
Changes of performance are done at the transition of patterns, like repeating, or (un)muting instruments.
Jumps forward or backward can be made in the patternlist while playing.

As a consequence, one only need the description of the refrain once in the data-description of the song,
One could jump to the start of the refrain from the end of chorus 1, and jump to chorus 2 at the end of the refrain.
Or decide to repeat chorus 2 four times, to make room for someone live adding a solo, before the refrain again.

thank you for your interesting link open source
full of useful freewares.
it's like a new world for me,very dificult!
I try this Modplug Tracker, the ergonomy is cold! but it's a freeware Wink i don't feel well with those lines, it's like Renoise, all the steps with info in vertical very fast! Shocked
i prefer piano rolls, see the notes all together; with Usine i can arrange my windows to see what i record and is looped, and also other patterns playing.
does Modplug and Renoise need other software to record audio?
can be recorded only midi?
anyway it was fun to play with arows this song Aryx
thanks SamZen

To be difficult again, there's a functional difference between ModPlug and Renoise. Modplug is a tracker, Renoise a sequencer.

The GUI of ModPLug indeed is quite 'cold', but that's so far the policy in the development (I'm one of the beta-testers).
It's the priority to finetune and expand the routines and control, before adding some fancy skin.

I can understand the need for a piano roll representation, but considering having a monitor, it's more suitable to see the score in a vertical way in time.

I'm not sure about Renoise, because I don't use it, but ModPLug doesn't have an audio recorder.
Samples have to be imported, but it has a simple tool with some edit-functions.
I know ModPlug can handle MIDI. (although I don't use MIDI either).

This song Aryx is a very old example of the tracker-format. Better find some more recent files to play with.

Btw : during playback with MPT, you can assign one of the samples to the alfabet-keys of the keyboard in a 2-octave range.
Many commands of MPT can be configured as a keyboard-shortcut, to avoid the use of the mouse, if preferred.

You inspire me, to consider writing a special page, a kind of manual, about the realtime playing issues of this software.
