Hello all. I went back through my parents' vinyl collection and found a couple of really interesting old "Middle of the Road" records, including some where guitarist Vinny Bell was the session guitarist.

On a recording of "Theme from the Midnight Cowboy", Vinny's guitar took on a watery, echoey effect which defies description here; you really have to hear it. If a guitar could be played in an underwater cavern, this was what it would sound like. It wasn't just surf reverb - there was some very elaborate sweep-filtering going on, as well as a little slapback.... ohh f***it, you really have to hear it!

Does anyone know the effect I mean? Does anyone know how this was done? Mr Bell is being pretty tight-lipped about it, years after it stopped being his bread and butter.
