Hi everyone,

I'm a new user. Just got used A6 and I hae very strange problem which almost puts me in a state of depression. However may be I'm doing something wrong...

When synth is in the program mode after proper warm up (20 min) it starts to flicker the screen by itself like if you would change param on a knob or something... It goes into editing mode by itself and then when it's there it starts going from tab to tab of diffrent params changing it. Like if it would be a ghost tweeking knobs... Ususaly it changes the setting of the filters oppening them up... When it happens if you try to close a filter usign the 24 db knob nothing happens... Screen just keeps changing tabs and settings of parameters by itself... I've reinstalled OS and it stoped doing it for few hours even after reboot... But then later that day I've turned the synth on and it's doing it again... Basicaly if you change a program it loads original setting for it when you go back to it but then in 5-10 min it goes into edidting mode losing the filter settings and starts to fliker the screen again... The longer it's on the more it does not want to stay on the program name screen and switches by itself into param screens... Like right now it's highliting second row of tabs on the screen by iteself rendomly going from tab to tab and my patch does not sound like it should what so ever... I've tryed the soft reboots holding the soft buttons 4 and 3 and all those listed in manual...

Please help!

Thanks,
Peter

This is a problem with some encoders. I had it with my Ion and a Korg ESX-1. You can see if there is an update for your A6 which might desensitize them, otherwise it's a trip to the repair center.

There is a setting in the OS which allows you to only start updating the parameters when you go past the original value... can't remember exactly right now where this is, but it can help if you have jumpy pots... at least temporarily.

Thanks for the reply... Where can I find the update? Are you talking about the OS update or some other updates?

Thanks,
Peter

I'm actually talking about the PANEL / PTHRU functionality (see page 258 in the owner's manual). I think this is in all versions of the OS.

Thanks for replies... I tried to change settings in the global mode and it helped a bit... At list it does not change the sond any more by itself... But it's so bad that sometimes it even switches the programs by itself...

I think unless Alesis suport will not have some sort of soft fix for it I need to bring the machine to the repair shop... Does anyone know if they have repaire locations in New York City, how much it will cost me to repair such problem and how long it might take?

Thanks,
Peter

I believe it is in NJ, but I could be wrong. Somewhere up there, anyway. Contact Alesis and they will direct you. Is it in warranty?

No it's not... I do not know actualy... I know it says that it was build in 2002 (in taiwan) and as far as I can tell has serial number 3z19 (if it means anything)... I've bought it used and it came without anything... So probably it's not under warranty any more... Any idea how much it might cost and how long it might take to fix problem like that?

Thanks,
Peter

I haven't a clue, but when I had my Ion repaired, it was quite expensive.

replacing a board might well set you back up to 600€ or so, but afcourse this is just a wild guess as nobody knows what exactly is wrong with your a6. maybe it's only a minor thing.
doubt however it will ever be as much as buying a second second hand.

I had to replace the board of the Ion: $350. Fast turn around.

brought mine once to the servicestation myself, had the voiceboard replaced, could take him back one week later, thereafter another 4 chips replaced ( to make it almost perfect hardwarely), just had to wait a few hours. think transport from the shop to the servicestation and back takes more time that the actual repair .
