Wave forms Subject description: Sine/Tri waves on oscillators |
|
|
One thing I've recently found as I scope my Red Face A6 is that "Sine" wave buttons on the oscillators generate a triangle wave while the "Tri" wave buttons generate a sine wave. In addition, the saw waves and the square waves are consistent but neither are close to the idealized shape one might envision. I assume this is to create richly filterable harmonics.
I'll be curious to hear if the "new" A6's live up to expectations. The delay in availability seems to have generated a shrill tone of it's own. I've had no problem with mine over these many years and have enjoyed many long nights of conoodlling. Only recently have I become aware of the history and frustration of others.
Also, after 8 years I actually have the time to dissect the deliberate development of "voices" and I'm thrilled at the prospect. I found it curious that all my searches came up so void of content. I did find the "tips and trick" document but precious little else in the way of useful guidance.
Anyway, I am optimistic that a new production/distribution has solved the problems and some fertile collaboration is immanent. |

Which oscilloscope did you use? To my ears the sine is a sine (not a perfect one but a sine nevertheless) - same with the triangle waveform. And you are right aboutt the harmonic content - it's very rich.

Did they change anything in the A6? Am I missing something here? |

i've in the past put a small picture with the waveforms of the a6 over here :
http://electro-music.com/forum/topic-4200.html
i didn't find a sine while a triangle was expected as far as i remember.
it would be nice if technical info about specifications of the a6 could be added to that link, thereby spitting round more and more in the depths of this instrument.
i also don't think anything has changed with the a6, word is spread that its delay was due to chipdistributionproblems ( ? ) |

Could you please be more specific?
The oscillators won't produce a clean sine, and overdriving the pre or post mix sections will rat them up even further. Filter 2 will produce a nice sine wave, and will also track the keyboard. |
