Not sure... is there an easy way to tell? |
When it sounds nice and does not detune with large modulation it is probably linear. _________________ Jan

Does the pitch of the carrier alter when the pitch of the modulator does?
If not it is linear.
Edit: whoops missed Jans post. |

Aha ok then I know precisely what you mean - one of many things that bugged me about the Alesis Ion was the way everything went out of pitch when you turned up the FM.
The FM on the Dominion 1 seems to be linear - it stays in pitch when I turn up the FM on both VCO1 and VCO2. There is some kind of difference between VCO1 and VCO2 for FM, can't find anything in the manual right now but FM bites harder on the VCO2 making it freak out more. Either it's like with the ring modulation (where the modulation is analog on VCO1 and digital on the others), or there's something "wrong" with my synth (I think I prefer it like it is if it is!).
(Started writing this mail than ot lost in messing around with controlling FM modulation using ADSR2 and turning the arpeggiator on with randomly selected notes, through an analog delay... ah the sound... _________________ Antimon's Window

Looks amazing! And not just in pics, in specs too.
Maybe you can give a little summary of your impressions whenever you are able to tear away from it? _________________ Muied Lumens Sub Forum

I've totally been telling people at work that as of last weekend I found myself involved in a very serious relationship that got physical in a HURRY, and that I'm having trouble keeping my hands to myself and I don't ever want to leave home.
So, um, kinda my desert island synth, yeah.
It has presence and a lot of girth, and its own distinct sound, and I really want to get it in a bigger room and hear it LOUD. I got a sweet deal on it used from a Wiggler so kind of a no-brainer.
That said, to my ears its still horses for courses, and as good as I think the Pro 2 does what it does I also feel the M-Audio Venom does some things more than well enough (and distinctly enough too) that I wouldn't waste time trying to program something else to sound like it. This, BTW, is my most excellent rational for getting a Sub 37 at some point. Heh heh... |
